Oh drat.. It ain't a coin.. it's a new walking stick (I refuse to call it a cane) Why would I ever buy a new cane when I have 2 that my sons got for me.... Might have sumptin to do with a slimy, sleazy, scum sucking, scuzzball that stole my blackthorn right from my shopping cart.... Grrrrr.... (and the dragonclaw doesn't fit in the car well) Woman made me buy a new stick after i fell yesterday without one... Not a blackthorn, but a walnut root will crack a skull nearly as well
hehe yeah is 55 inches, but will cut it down to 35 (yeah im a short... person) like my blackthorn was... and I'll remind you it ain't safe to pick on a grumpy old man with a thumpin stick (even if you are a slightly older one lol)
My woman tells me it's "Pride" and I shouldn't feel that way, but I simply refuse to walk around with an old man cane... I'd almost rather get back in the chair...
Wheel chair.. spent 18 months of my life in the damn thing and swore never again (and I mean that despite my prior statement otherwise lol)
That’s not a cane and it’s not a walking stick. It’s a club used to help keep your balance. Sorry to hear you fell. Hope all is well.
I found a nice stick in Canada, used it for the whole trip. Coming back border agents took it…Commies!
No.. My stolen Blackthorn was a shillelagh.. This is a walnut thumpin stick lol... Old/stolen stick below... And just so you know... a real blackthorn like mine was start at about $300 and shoot upwards quickly... even the plastic/polypropaline ones start at 50...
That reminds me of when I was stationed in the DC area in the early '80s. They used to hold the JFK Memorial Men's Field Hockey Tournament on the Mall in Washington D.C...between the Capitol and the Washington Monument. Men's field hockey teams from around the World would converge on Washington for this tournament. The entire Mall was divided into a playing fields. I don't recall how many, but there were a lot. It was really a sight to see! Huge NFL sized men running up and down the field whacking each other with the equivalent of a shillelagh! There were ambulances parked along the street on "stand-by". It wasn't uncommon to see players carted off the field. I gained a whole new respect for Women's field hockey after seeing this.
It's a beautiful walking/fighting stick! You must be heartbroken. That's not just a stick; that's a family member.
I've been doing a little reading on shillelaghs and they all reference blackthorn wood. Do you know if that's a requirement for a shillelegh? ...blackthorn wood?
I don't think its a requirement, but is one of those all things.. the irish consider all blackthorns are shillelegh's but not all shillelegh's are blackthorn kinda deal lol I suppose if my new stick was made in ireland to the right dimensions it could be called a shillelegh but like you mention as soon as i hear that word, i picture blackthorn
