Interesting and educational article. My guess is (slabbed) toned coins (Morgans most likely) will be an upcoming item he will be hucking at exorbitant prices.

This article is spiced with cleverly worded misleading commentary, using basic factual statements manipulatively modified to lull the reader into a sense of trust and an impression that the entity/author has the consumer interests as the first priority of the entity. I disagree that it was succinct and/or informative, except to convince the reader to purchase the products the entity offers.

I agree! That's a really smart approach. Rather than reading EXACTLY what folks are talking about, take a guess from their comments.
If you want to read an authoritative treatise on coin preservation, cleaning, and toning, check out the second edition of Weimar White's Coin Chemistry. Personally, I prefer coins with minimal or no toning and am reminded of one of White's article titles: Toning is to Silver What Rust is to Iron: Bad News."
Mike, I respect the "likes" of all collectors. Some folks like "white" silver and others like toning (bad news oxidation). No one can argue with the normal chemistry of metal. However, I once answered Mr. White's view in print when I wrote that: "I'LL TAKE ALL THE "DAMAGED" RAINBOW COLORED SILVER COINS I CAN GET!!! The market values of those coins is on my side.
The article was actually informative and ended with the distinct warning not to buy ungraded toned coins, since they could be artificially toned. And the worth of a toned coin is in the "eye of the beholder".
You got that right...the beholder-owner and the beholder-buyer...! Just get a load of the CRAZY prices sellers are trying for (and in some cases, getting) for toned coins...and many are graded/toned coins. That said, hard to assess reality v. fantasy with it all. And for some, the wilder and deeper the "rainbow" (and psychedelic) toning, the better...for them. If that's anyone's fantasy, so be it, but I'll stick with the white and off-white...maybe a little champagne and/or gentle golden toning here/there, now/then.
