Take a look at and read this person's ad. Does it seem to imply that these are unopened, uncirculated rolls? I contacted the seller and will post his response later. I am curious to see if it is just me who find this to be just a touch misleading. Thanks http://cgi.ebay.com/1969-S-BU-LINCO...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item587f70979b ITEM NUMBER: 380095207323
Yeah, I think I would tend to agree. He's clearly in the business to move coins and would know the value to state "Unopened!!" if they really were. I think it's worded so that you may ASSUME they are but that he could later point to the fact that he never said that. .... or maybe I'm just in a bad mood today ;-)
from the listing; "I DO NOT SEARCH ANY ROLLS FOR GEMS, VARIETIES OR ERRORS"that tells me they are unopened
Sure... there are much worse, but deception is deception in my eyes. Just wait until you hear what this guy had to say when I asked about them. I will post it later on tonight. He was actually quite rude and defensive IMHO.
It may be a little misleading should you be looking for OBW unopened rolls. Since he never states that these are OBW, only that they are un-searched by him, I would assume he is buying rolls and selling them unopened as the day he bought them. IMHO I did not get the impression that these were 'mint' or 'OBW' rolls. A little misleading due to lack of information, but not really deceptive, to me at least. Of course I am now a grizzled ebay veteran that is getting better at reading between the lines.

I cut and pasted several of the numbers above, and of course the cigar box coins are scams, but several other ones looked just fine to me.
All are non-sanctioned TPG's named (title of description), have a grade in the title for a raw coin, or are improperly listed replica coins ("the cigar box coins").
Should I be looking for such rolls on eBay?? Of course not. It was more of a board curiosity than a true interest. Anyways, this was his reply: These are not original, unopened rolls. You should read the listing. There is nothing in the listing or write up about these rolls being original, unopened rolls. They are listed as bu rolls and write up says they are unsearched by me. I sell rolls. I don't search any of my coins for errors...don't have the inclination, time, vision or knowledge necessary to classify the thousands of variations in lincoln cents. These are as listed, head/tail bu rolls. They come from a number of sources. I wrap them in NF string preformed wrappers and crimp the tails end with a hand crimper. Now, who the h**l that is in their "right mind" would not bother glancing at each Cent as they load a roll of 1969-S? No one... period. Also, why bother using NF String wrappers and a crimp tool if you are not trying to mislead a prospective buyer? He states in the heading: RARE AND GETTING MORE RARE, SAN FRANCISCO MINT ROLLS And in the listing he says: HEAD/TAIL ROLL OF RED BU 1969-S LINCOLN CENTS. THESE ROLLS ARE GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND. EVERY TIME I LOOK, THE PRICE GOES UP! How is something that he puts together by hand becoming more and more rare (Other than maybe he is not putting as many together as before)? I am sorry but I find this to be just as bad as these people who are paying $50 and up for an "unsearched roll" that just happens to have a VDB on one end and an Flying Eagle, Indian Head, or what-have-you on the other.
Unsearched rolls? Try this thread; http://www.cointalk.com/t82051/ I am sorry, but because you chose to read into what he is saying something that is not there does not make it misleading. I do not know how old you are, but Excedrin used to have a string of advertisements - headache number ???. People took Excedrin for a headache caused by their kids, work, etc. and immediately felt better. Every one of those commercials had a line "Excedrin has been proven to be more effective than aspirin for pain ____ ____ ____ ." Tylenol, etc. were not out yet at least significantly. I will bet that there is not a soul here that can tell me the words in the 3 blanks were that said you should not use Excedrin for headaches. Yet that commercial was not the least misleading. Just that people thought it said something else. BTW, if anyone is interested, I will post the blanks later.
I've gotten some beautiful Lincoln rolls off of eBay, and some not so good ones. I even got one with a beautiful BU coin at each end, and the rest were circulated. Now that one I know was unsearched by the seller, cause he felt really bad, and replaced it and sent me some other stuff too. The best rolls I've gotten always started with $.01 and they let the market take the price wherever. The sellers that put high starting prices I've stayed away from.
Very true. Of course I just assume anything with big bold print is trying to mislead me - or give me a headache so I have to take some tylenol. So I just skip them. I did not google it, but I remember the commercial - but for the life of me I can not remember those three words. OUCH - now you did it you made me try to think. Its to late, so time to take some Tylenol and go to bed.
Don't feel bad. I have not found a person yet who remembers it and that includes while the commercial was running. It was blatantly obvious, but no one heard it. I wonder if Doug can surprise me.
Well, you are the first. Now imagine running a series (maybe the longest series ever) for a headache reliever and telling everyone that it worked great for everything - except a headache. BTW, their secret ingredient that made it work "better" was - are you ready for this - Caffeine!
If you think that you will truly get any unopened, unsearched If you think that you will truly get any unopened, unsearched rolls on eBay of any key dates for the major varieties please, please "wake up", you are having a bad dream and it will soon go away. There are none nor will there ever be any 1969-S, 70-S, 55-P, 58-P truly unsearched rolls on eBay for the rest of eternity!
Read the Excedrin ad again it does NOT say you shouldn't use it for a headache, it says that it does not work better than aspirin for a headache. But it doesn't say that it works worse either. For all we know it could work just as well. But we do know that for any ache or pain OTHER than headache Excederin supposedly works better.
