I'm sure some of you have watched with amazement The Coin Vault on TV. I watch time to time but would never purchase anything from them. Has anyone noticed their sales pitch always starts with something like this: 1 roll (50 count) of uncirculated roosevelt dimes mostly 1962-1963. Coin for coin in the LNC (leading numismatic catalog) is $15.92 per coin for a total of $796.00. But, if we cut that in half that would be $398.00 and would sell every roll in stock But, since we bought these "RIGHT" we are going to cut that price in half for a deal you can't pass up for $199.00! Now my question is, not who in there right mind would pay $199.00 for 50 silver dimes from 1964. But what publication on this planet is the aforementioned LNC or "Leading Numismatic Catalog" that they use as part of there outrageous sales pitch. Does anyone know of what catalog they could be talking about or is this just fabricated.
I watch the HSN coin shows, just to laugh.Their prices are out of wack.Any thing they sell is to much money!Their gimmick is MS-70 or PF-70.At the price you pay,you will never get your money back!!!
This is correct, You will find all TV shows the deal in coins to be way Over priced, Keep your wallet in your pocket!!
I hate to admit this but i was foolish enough to buy from them a few yrs ago and never again not what they say it is
We have all done it!! The best thing is not to do it again, Learn from your Mistake and move on down the road
I have only been in the hobby about 5 years and there is just such a vast amount of info to try and learn. However, having an honest knowledgable dealer who will take the time to educate you is priceless. The TV networks are not interested in educating you about the hobby. They just want your money. I mean come on, certifying common silver eagles at MS70 and they are actually getting serious premiums on a bullion coin.
I love turning the tv to the Coin Vault, hitting the mute button, then working on projects while the pictures of the coins go by. I wouldn't actually buy from them, but it's good "tv screen saver"
Did you see there newest one? Buy a folder in a wooden case and get the first 5 presidential coins with it! OMG Such a great deal. Except for the fact that almost every bank is overloaded with brand new rolls of these same presidential coins! And the used cigar box is a nice touch lol
Anytime you buy anything on TV you can rest assured you are helping to pay the advertising bill. And that goes doubly for Coin Vault and HSN. Support Your Lovable Reputable Online Coin Dealers!
The thing they forget to mention is the price they quote is probably for ms 65 or 66 coins. Not from average coins in their rolls. Just a theory. They are kind of fun to watch and laugh at though.
It can't be Littleton, the most they want for any 62-64 dime is $11.75, and that is for Proofs! I do put on the TV coin shows from time to time, but mainly to see the pictures.
The leading Numismatic Pub. could be anything but The leading Numismatic Pub. could be anything but anytime you start to see and hear snakes slithering around I am always very careful were I tread!
Mike Mezack on HSN does over $100 Million a year in sales... there are collectors that want exactly what he is selling... not bullion
Now if only they got what they paid for... I'm sorry but I just sit and watch the hyped up garbage they sell... It's sad really... Especially when they bring it to coin shops like ours and I have to tell them that the gold and platinum plated state quarters they bought for some silly price because some guy said they cataloged for some ridiculous number are worth nothing more then a quarter. You should see their faces sometimes...
I've often wonder the same thing! My thought is they pull it out of their ---!! I use that show as background music (so to speak) when I'm on the computer, I hope they don't sucker punch too many ppl who really can't afford their stuff but what'll ya gonna do? It would be great if the US Mint would at least have a PSA or something so the unknowing public would know better but no such luck... As far as the publication I'm sure it's some overseas garb!!
I have had customers at shows who clearly had more money than knowledge come up and offer items they had bought on Coin Vault. Usually the story goes "I live in an area where there are no coin dealers and I thought they must be reputable since they are on TV." Unfortunately they want way more than can possibly be paid, of course.
