Hey guys, some of you may remember this beauty from a year or so ago. I posted pictures at the time thinking that they were exquisitely detailed, when in fact, they were merely scans that were overexposed and poor in quality overall. IT IS A NEW AGE. Or rather, I have a new camera. A Sony Cyber-shot W290, to be exact. I highly recommend them. Anyway, here are some pics of my 1910 Quarter Eagle, which was argued to be AU-MS borderline in grade. New to the hobby, I was a bit disappointed. I now think that it is probably mid to high AU, though you may beg to differ. Some of the more astute members recognized that it was a jewelry piece at one point, which I can neither confirm nor deny. But I do see the rim where it appears as though it may have been fastened in necklace of some sort. Anyway, I thought maybe you could finally see some decent pictures of this coin and give your thoughts. Thanks! Hopefully these links will work. obverse: http://s377.photobucket.com/albums/...iew¤t=1910QuarterEagleobverseclose3.jpg reverse: http://s377.photobucket.com/albums/...iew¤t=1910QuarterEaglereverseclose2.jpg
I seem to be having problems with the images' sizes...they're saved as 1.1 Mb but only showing up as like 12.2 Kb. = (
Upload them to photobucket account, and post the code here as a response. That should show your pictures just fine so we can better tell the details. The series is very hard to grade, and the pictures have been shrunken making the details almost impossible to see.
The pictures are not good. I can see details, but it has some major issues with lighting and color! Has some hot spots, and places of over exposure. From what I can see, maybe an AU55/8, as I can see some wear on the obverse, but I cannot tell if the coin has any luster or even what the color is.
Ok, welllllll...I took a few more pics in an attempt to capture the color, luster, and details. Tell me what you think! This is tough business, good thing I'm just an amateur http://s377.photobucket.com/albums/...iew¤t=1910QuarterEagleobverseclose6.jpg There are a slew of pictures, look at whichever ones you want. Thanks for your help and time!
Those photos are much much better. I am still seeing some wear though near the last feather in the headdress, and some in other places. The reverse is nearly perfect. This series is a tough one to grade, and I could barely see any differences between my AU58 and my MS62 quarter eagles, only difference is/was color. I'd say yours is a nice AU58, or just like you said borderline Mint State. I'd be interested on what a TPG would have to say
Thanks! Good to know I'm not completely off with my grading abilities I really should send it in sometime, if for no other reason than to protect it. Thanks again!
I tried loading the pics theyre way too large lol. Butim no expert in gold but I would fathom a solid au-58. tmoneyeagles probably knows better tho
