Well, I just now had time to photograph the 5 coins I got for Christmas. I have a new camera (Sony Cyber-Shot W230) as well and I'm still learning to use it so these pictures aren't great (especially some of the reverses). Anyway, here I go. I know these are foreign coins...but since I'm just displaying my Christmas presents and not asking questions I thought this was a better place for them than the foreign forum. Over the last year, I have started to collect coins from WWII nations especially Germany. Due to my limited budge due to school...it has been a slow process but I got 5 nice new pieces to show off. So, here they are: 1936-D 2 Reichspfennig. This coin was minted in Munich. What is really interesting to me is this coin bares the design from the previous Weimar Republic. Despite the vastly different ideology and symbolism, the Nazis kept this design for a few years after seizing power. However, in 1936 a new design was released and this design stopped. This is a bronze coin and I would grade it MS64 full red. 1939-D 10 Reichspfennig. This coin was minted in Munich. This is a brass coin and I would grade it MS64. 1935-D 5 Reichsmark. This coin was minted in Munich. It is .900 silver and I would grade it MS64. I love the toning on this coin. 1936-A 5 Reichsmark. This coin was minted in Berlin. It is .900 silver and I would grade it MS63. 1948-A 5 Reichspfennig. This coin was minted in Berlin. This is a post war allied occupation issue coin and it is the most valuable in my WWII Germany collection. The design was changed post war to remove the swastika and these circulated in Germany in the years following the war when the allied countries controlled Germany. This design was minted in 1947 and 1948. This is a zinc coin and it shows spotting that is common to these issues due to the low quality of metal. However, this coin retains much of it's original luster which makes it a very choice example of the coin. There is a small fingerprint on the reverse. I would grade this coin MS64. Thanks for looking and let me know what you think. :smile
Camaro - I like your new pieces. I've always liked the various representations for eagles on German coins (assuming they are in fact eagles?). There seems to be a certain style always used with their birds. Am I correct?
I might have answered my own question regarding the German eagle by looking at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_Germany
Those are very attractive coins, Camaro. I usually go through the foreign bin at my local coin shop and pick out ten I like the designs on. As for the pics, I'd say you have it down pretty well. I'm also a little jealous because I put coins on my Christmas list in LARGE, BOLDFACE letters, but didn't recieve a single one! Good thing my birthday's only a couple months off.
I'm learning to use my Sony Cyber-shot W290, it's fun to use. I don't know how the 230 works, but they should be pretty similar...I plan on posting a couple pictures on my photobucket account, you should check them out! http://s377.photobucket.com/albums/...iew¤t=1910QuarterEagleobverseclose3.jpg
I'm glad you guys like them, you can see my whole WWII Germany collection in the album in my profile. It's a pretty small collection still but I'm trying to buy quality pieces so it's taking longer. I think they are. Yours is the next model up...it has better zoom and a few more bells and whistles.
My brother bought me three tokens for XMAS, but they were of very poor quality. I very much appreciated his attempt and wanting to give something that could interest me, but I wish he hadn't. I would have been happy with a book he liked instead. Oh well, as they say, it is the thought that counts, right?
Your not the only one. ME TOO. I get shirts, booze, food. No coins. I gave 10 Red Books with 10 - 2009 Uncirculated sets from the Mint to 10 lucky individuals that really don't appreciate coins at all. But I do it every year.
Great coins! I like that you're buying quality instead of quantity. That's what I'm doing with my schützentaler. It takes longer, but it is so much more rewarding. I really like those uncirculated copper coins. I'll probably get one some day, when I find it in a dealer junk bin for 25¢. Maybe one day! Otherwise, my schützentaler will remain my main focus. Carl - If you get lots of booze, you shouldn't have much trouble trading it from some nice coins! I think there are plenty of folks out there that'll loosen their grip on the 7070 to tighten the grip on the bottle!
I'm glad you guys like them. This now gives me 12 coins in my WWII Germany collection and all but 1 are MS (and that one is AU with a cool die crack...which is why I bought it). Thanks for all the kind words.
Oh, another opportunity to show what I got for Xmas. Just kidding, I'll just show the small pendant of gold I got for my wife. I bought the onza it sits on for myself, same day. Nice German coins up there, Camaro. I'll be by to see your album. :kewl:
Hallo your coin/s are indeed German butt do not seem to be stempelglanz. Please refer to your Amerikan red book for more accurate information on this matter.
I can assure you that all these coins are in fact stempelglanz. They were purchased from a well known dealer in German coinage and I am confident in his and my ability to grade them. I am a little frustrated with the pictures as they don't show the coins that well (new camera and I'm still learning with it)...but they are all uncirculated.
