I posted an article on "Subjectivity in Grading" here on CT a couple months ago to test it before I sent it to a coin magazine for publication. Here's the link to the CT post: http://www.cointalk.com/t77049/ Well, I'm excited to say that it was just published in the latest edition of Longacre's Ledger - the Fly-In Club's quarterly journal. I had also submitted an article called "These Are My Favorite Things" and Rick decided to publish it in the same edition! Since this article contained several photos, I scanned the article and am attaching it here (many of you may recognize some of these coins from various posts I've made over the past years!). By the way, the Fly-In Club is a wonderful coin club geared towards Flying Eagle and Indian Cent enthusiasts, and if any of you who are interested in joining the Fly-In Club, please let me know and I will send you an application, or you can apply on line here: http://www.fly-inclub.org/
The 1906 example sold for $276,000 (which includes the buyer's premium) and is a new record for an Indian cent! Btw, Mike Byers, who is a big error collector and just published a wonderful coffee table-type book on errors, was the underbidder.
There's one in the Heritage auction at Orlando FUN... http://coins.ha.com/common/view_item.php?Sale_No=1136&Lot_No=2433 Currently, there's almost $200,000 on the table for this little beauty. Might be entertaining to do the Heritage Live thing the night this one hits the auction block !
Charmy, we are going to have to start rolling out the "RED CARPET" for you ! LOL Great work. I now know who to ask for advice on IHC.
Yes, it has been for quite a while. And lately, Heritage has been printing it for us (they have a big huge ad in the centerfold), so the quality has improved as well.
I have often thought that it would be nice if it was made available online. It might generate more interest in the series if it were. I reckon though, perhaps appropriately, 19th century coins will remain in 19th century media format.
I'm actually listening to an interview with the guy that bought that IHC. The gold one. GREAT read Charmy, thanks for your dedicated time to numismatics.
Well done Penny Lady. A very informative article, and Todd's pics really draw attention. :thumb::thumb:
Great article. Love the 1877 -- what a nice coin and an example that a coin with two very different toned sides can be a winner.
Thanks folks. I am excited that some people think enough of what I write about to actually print them!
And you should be :high5: But if you only knew how hard it is to get anybody to write anything period - let alone something good - you understand why editors are so excited when they get something like the stuff you write. Not taking anything away from you Charmy, far from it. You do an excellent job. But editors have to search far and wide just to find material for their publications. Honestly, it's very tough to find anybody to write something. I've been an editor of a numismatic publication - I know how hard it is. But keep up the good work, it benefits everyone :thumb:
Of course you're excited ! I'm excited ! I think it's quite an honor, actually. Congrats ! :thumb: Well done. I enjoy your writing.
Good work on that article! I just sent an article to mint error news magazine about seated liberty dollars. If I win I get an error worth about $1000.
That's a great idea - to offer a nice incentive to encourage more people to write articles for the coin publications!
Yes, Editors have a hard time getting material. But I have a deep well to draw from with Charmy here. Membership in the Fly-In Club just got extended for a year for current members ! So Join up and you'll get some great issues and maybe you get a free gift next year too! http://www.fly-inclub.org/
