If you like the satin finish coins and want to see them get the respect they deserve, copy the paragraph below or write your own and email it to Whitman Publishing at info@WhitmanBooks.com or mail it to: Whitman Publishing, LLC, 3103 Clairmont Road, Suite B, Atlanta, Georgia 30329

I am writing to ask when you plan on including the satin finish coins, produced by the US Mint since 2005, in your book, A Guide Book of United States Coins and in your coin albums. The third party grading services, as well as the collecting community recognize these satin finish coins as distinct varieties and those I’ve spoke with feel their collections are not complete without the satin finish varieties. These satin finish coins should be listed with each respective coin type as you currently do with proof coins. I’ll buy your products again when these satin coins are included and not until then.

They will be there someday but it's not time yet.
They would be guessing as to value at this point.
They mostly sell as sets as of now and they are listed.
    It will change over time.

Yep, but the sooner the better if you're holding them. lol I'd like to see them in my albums next to the circ versions. So, if enough write in, it may push them a little. I spoke to them today and was told the satins were too specialized for inclusion - not buying it.

Write those letters! Whitman, acting in it's own best interest, should give collectors what they want. Let them know what you want!

I can see where the folks that make albums are in a bit of a tough spot.
    Lets look at Dansco.

They make an album for just the UNC coins, one with UNC and proofs and one with blank pages.

Now they need one for UNC and satin and a second new one for Unc, satin and proof. Some collectors may want one with just satin and proofs.
Now they are up to five or six albums for just one type of coin.

Lets say Dansco started making them all and fill the pipeline of dealers and collectors. At this point lets say the mint stops the satin mint set program.
All the product in production and in the dealers hands are a big problem.
It's hard to sell an album with wrong pages, so Dansco is now making replacement pages and albums with new item numbers. It hurts my brain trying to figure just how many different pages that would be.

Now lets say the mint stops the satin mint sets but starts it back up in two or three years. Mint changes must drive the album makers crazy.
I can see why they would wish to be very slow in any changes to albums.

Most of my modern albums are a wreck from the changes when satin came out and the changes to some coin types. In a few years maybe the dust will settle and I'll find the pages needed to make things look right again.

What a crazy hobby we have.

I see what you're saying, could be an inventory control problem. Yet, it just may be a boon to their business with many collectors upgrading to the new albums. For example, when they do come out with the satins, I plan on updating all my series (hopefully with update pages). Now that the Lincoln Memorials are done, I plan on somehow updating to an album that shows the completed series, rather than the "open ended" to date one I have now. So the changes will keep collectors spending more money on updates rather than a one time purchase. Additionally, album production isn't rocket science - the different options could be managed with little effort.

So why do you think they have not started making them?

Just a reminder to write those letters.
