Indeed...as the bad of today/current becomes worse, the good of yesteryear seems even better. I liked Ike...!

My parents told me the story that they took me to an Eisenhower campaign rally as an infant and a month later I saw him on TV and pointed to him and said “I like Ike”

I find it interesting that the mint is minting some half dollars for circulation again. If they're out of half dollars then they must surely be out if Ikes. Ikes had less than a fifth of the mintage and are much more popular.

When we carried this cartwheel sized dollar, back then, it always felt like we were spending something special. That is the difference with the big coins. They were not just a form of commerce, but also wealth or savings. It is a relationship with money that we just don't have any more.

As some of you know, I collect political items also. Here are a few pieces that I have.

My late in-laws received this small medal when they attended a Republican fundraiser in 1960.

The "flasher button" (changes images as it is tilted back and forth) was introduced during the 1956 campaign. Stevenson issued the first one, but the Eisenhower campaign soon followed.

This piece was probably issued during the 1952 campaign.

It's hard to believe now, but some Republicans talked about drafting Ike for a second term in 1956 after his heart attack.

And a button with the classic slogan, "I like Ike."

None of these pieces are very rare or expensive.

He was a fantastic American and a fantastic president. Biggest infrastructure upgrade since the railroads for the average citizen. I won't go into the military career which was incredible in its own right.

Nice summarization and very nice coin. :)
