You know you can bring dates up on those old buffalo’s with a cup of peroxide and vinegar if you really want to know the date…. The mixture will etch the nickel and make it white as a ghost but about 70% of the time it will raise a readable date.
Thank you. I'm not worried about etching them, I'm planning on dumping them back in circulation eventually, so it'll be good that others can see the dates too. Cool
The coin gods are angry with me, today. Sorry about the contrast, was messing around in settings. Five 1939 cents in 24 hours. Crap.
Very cool of you to release these back into the wild. The second one looks like it might have a mint mark on it. You might want to try and restore the date on that one, as it could be a keeper. I've found quite a few low mintage ones this way....
Garbage day. Garbage week. I'm giving up. I did get an S mint mark though, on a keeper date for me. Still working on contrast, sorry. S.
Oh yes, this happened today. I like firsts, this is a first. I've found a few wheat cents in a day, 3 at the most. Today i found 5. That's not all.
I've only found about 7 of these in the wild, before today. Took me over a year. 5 in one afternoon. Last one is gorgeous.
Side note: at work, every penny is accounted for, so it's kind of easy to pinpoint where things came from. All five cents were taken from the same location. Someone raided someone's collection... *edit Side note side note: is it true that some of these may be resurfaced?
I still haven't found one in the wild.Let alone an uncirculated one which the beautiful last two seem to be,all mine are crap.
I actually found one, in the wild, years and years ago, and had no idea about it, did no research. Then i start finding them at work, got into my old coins, and there she is, with my wheat cents.
Weak week. Six 1939 nickels. That's not bad. Looks like W mint mark dumped me. Two days in a row as a no show. What happened Marsh-Billings? I thought we had a good thing going? Sigh.
Love the buffalo nickels! Always amazes me when i find them in circulation, seeing how very different they are. My 13 yo son and i have started Whitman folders of the ones i find in circulation, including the ones we Nic-a-date.
