Need a little help with this one. Louis XIIII 1/2 Ecu - Silver Obverse: LVD.XIIII.D.G.FR.ET.NAV.REX Reverse: SIT.NOMEN. DOMINI. ? .BENEDICTVM.170? I can't quite make out the mint mark or the last digit of the year. Here are the pics of the coin along with a couple of close-ups of the areas where the mint mark and year are. The link below is the coin I believe this one is most similar to. Any help would be most appreciated. https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces55232.html
Hard to tell since it's over struck on another coin (I think I see a 94 from the under strike). Your choices are 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, or 9. I would try to find pics of those dates and see what might "fit". MA Shops has lots if dealers in this type of material, so you may be able to get comparison pics from there. The mint mark was also didn't strike up due to the under type. Lots of mm to choose from if it's 1704 or 1705, which will be challenging. It appears there is only 1 mint for 1706-08 and 2 for 1709 Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Edit to add: My strictly seat of your pants wild guess would by 1704-I, but I wouldn't use ink if I was labeling the 2x2
I was also thinking maybe a 1707-A, but I guess I really do need to take it to a professional to make sure. Thanks so much for looking at it for me.
Did some more checking on the numista link you posted. There is no 1707-A. Also, note the French descriptions. I'm pretty sure flan reforme is restrike while flan neuf is a standard planchet. That narrows it down to 1704, 1705, or one 1709 mint. Now you're down to only 37 possible combinations
