I'm a rookie trying to post my pics stored at photobucket for the first time, so please forgive me if you can't actually see the pictures that I want to show you....All of my early commemoratives have the blazing/brilliant (but not blast white) toning. This is the first one I've bought that has a different looking, subdued lustre. So I ask you (veteran collectors/dealers understandably rolling their eyes), is this an example of the so-called satin lustre? Thanks for helping a beginner to learn.

All I can tell you regarding the "satin finish" is that the first one was the Kennedy Half Dollar from the Commemorative set in 1998 that I am aware of. According to the mint, these were struck on a different kind of planchet designed to product the satiny finish. Outside of that, I no nothing of satin finish coins made by the US Mint, even accidently.

    Richard,

If you can post the a link you should be able to post the photo. Simply add the HTML tags to both ends of the URL.

Give it a try, we will help you. Once you have done it once, you will have it.

    Paul,
I'm confused as to how to add the HTML 'tags'. At Photobucket, the line in the HTML box is below (it is very long). Am I really supposed to add all of this code to the end of the link?

    <a href="http://s801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/rel_1973/?action=view&current=NewImage.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i801.photobucket.com/albums/yy291/rel_1973/NewImage.jpg" border="0" alt="Grant (obverse)"></a>

The only reason that know how to post a link is because it is listed for me in a box called 'direct link' underneath my picture (and all I have to do is copy it and paste into my post).

    Still confused,

    Richard

    Richard,

The HTML tags are simple to type in the reply box. You need the code before and after the URL. You seem to grasp how to get the URL by clicking on the Direct Link in your photobucket and pasting. For example, if I hit direct link and paste it here, it will look like this.

    http://i117.photobucket.com/albums/...4 Sale/JeffersonNickel1939-SRevof38NGCM-2.jpg

This is the URL. Now all I have to to the get the photo to appear is add the following code before [IMG] the URL. As you are typing it will look like this

Once you hit preview post, the photo will appear.

    Give it a try!

BTW, the Jefferson Nickel posted in the photo above is a good example of a coin with satin luster.
