A recent purchase has me curious about this particular coin and die variety. Since I'm away from my camera, I can't post pictures (I will add them when I get back on Tuesday) - but I just acquired two (yes, TWO) that are, at the very least, high AU. Both are, to some degree, "woodies" as well.

Both exhibit the S/S/S RPM as well as the doubling on the first two digits of the date.

I see that NGC and PCGS both attribute the variety, which tells me they are at least recognized and desirable varieties.

    How rare/common are they?

Are the feather details typically mushy, or more specifically, are they typically weakly or strongly struck?

Are there any grade points where the values significantly jump up?

I'm happy to go do some reading if anyone knows where more information is available.

    EDIT: Here are the photos

While I own a few silver PI/us peso's (1907/1908) and a dozen more from 44-45 I honestly haven't taken the time to research em as yet (picked em up cheap awhile back) If you find a good info source/book I would love to know about it :D

Yeah, so far the most information I've gotten about them has been from someone's PCGS Registry Set and a couple Heritage Auctions listings. From what I've read they are a tough find, so I consider myself a bit lucky to have gotten two in one shot.

I also know that both my examples are MUCH nicer than this one on eBay right now...priced at $700 BIN/BO...so I'm a bit excited to get them home and image them.

    NGC Census shows the following:

    BN
    Highest Grade: MS66
    Lowest Grade: AU58
    Total in all grades: 10

    RB
    Highest Grade: MS64
    Lowest Grade: MS63
    Total in all grades: 3

    RD
    Highest Grade: MS66
    Lowest Grade: AU58
    Total in all grades: 10

So, that's 23 total examples at NGC, highest at MS66 and lowest at AU58.

    PCGS Census shows the following:

    MSRD: 0 examples
    RB: 1 MS64RB
    BN: Highest MS65RB, Lowest AU53;

Total in all grades: 12 in RB, 1 in RD (total of 13)

So, that's 13 total examples at PCGS, highest at MS65RB and lowest at AU53.

    ANACS Census shows the following:

    BR
    Highest Grade: MS62
    Lowest Grade: AU50
    Total in all grades: 7

    RB
    Highest Grade: MS65
    Lowest Grade: MS64
    Total in all grades: 2

    RD
    N/A

So, that's 9 total examples at ANACS, highest at MS65RB and lowest at AU50 (there was also an XF Details, which if you count that brings the total to 10.)

I'd definitely check your 20c for the D/D and D/S.

of the 4 2 look a bit odd can't get a decent pic of the darker one, but the bright one seems to have sumptin going on.. will have to wait till i get a new scope can't really tell from the pics or the loop...
Note: I say "sumptin going on" because the other 2 have very very clean "d" mint marks the dark one has a line or ridge in it's middle i can get a good pic of the other seems to have a point at the bottom right side...
