Couldn't be an improperly mixed alloy as mid 1982 they went to zinc coated metal for cents. Could be roller marks but I can't tell much from the photos. Maybe other, more experienced members can comment. @JCro57, @Fred Weinberg, @paddyman98, others.

Not an improper alloy mix. This is a zinc planchet coated with a very thin layer of copper.

Since mid-1982, cents are made from zinc blanks plated with 100% copper. Since it is 100% copper, there is no such thing as an improper alloy. That being said, the plating process, subsequent striking and people "messing" around with them produce some odd looking coins.

Thats what I get for assuming. I assumed that the improper alloy mix had to do with the newer zinc mix and not the copper ones ...blonde moment

Also known as a cup holder coin since many can get this color from sitting in a cup holder in a car.

Are they worth extra money? I got a real deep cup holder, it will hold a lot.
