I'm not good at grading Morgan's so am looking for opinions on this 1902 S I call it XF but I'm probably off.
I think XF45 sounds fair. The cheek seems to have an odd amount of rub compared to the rest of the coin.
It has a rough cheek, but it's also got a lot luster. The grade would be AU-55 if the Cheek doesn't bother you that much, or AU-53 if it does.
I think the wear is AU...but the surfaces/luster doesn't look right. It could just be the photo. But I wonder if this coin has been dipped to death.
Upon closer examination of this coin I see a problem on and around the N in United. There also appears to be some small raised bumps of metal. Counterfeit or damage?
Good catch! Winner, Winner! Sweet and Sour Chinese Chicken Dinner! In this case, it's all sour. It's really bad when you have to go into looking at every one of these things to see if it's a counterfeit.
Glad it's not mine but sorry for my friend who It's from a large group of silver dollars that a friend of mine acquired Another fake in a small hoard of 30 Morgan and Peace dollars a friend acquired and asked me to grade them. Hate to tell him that some of them are bogus but at least they didn't cost him anyting.
Problems for me are: Rev. all letters have issues, bubbles @ N and field near wing; Obv. upper cheek, upper nose, eyebrow, forehead, leaves and flowers. Opinion: Fake.
Yep. Now days if you want to collect coins you must also educate yourself in counterfeit detection of coins as well as slabs.
