Can anyone tell me what grade I might expect if I were to submit this to PCGS? Also, is there a way to slab it that doesn't cost $100+? Something of note that isn't evident in the photo is the beginnings of rainbow toning on Liberty's face. Thanks.
Beautiful Indian im in the 65 gem or above range.Color is RB if you want to save money i suggest ANACS or IGC but you might not get the grade you were expecting.
It may be best to wait till you have several coins to send in at the same time. That way the shipping and insurance is averaged out over all the coins.
I'm with Eddie on this one (I think it'll grade higher) - MS66 RB. Dot on the shield and light damage to the date are a little bit of a distraction, but a very nice specimen!! All the diamonds and I'm not sure what to make of the denticles between 3 and 6 on the obverse. Doesn't look like contact damage so it was probably struck that way.
Really nice coin and I agree with the majority, however, the slight wear on the two leaves at 7:00 position will hold the grade to MS-65 max, IMO.
Beautiful coin. I would think that ANACS would be the least expensive for a slab. If you just want it slabbed for protection, DIY and print whatever label you wish. Welcome to CT BTW.
Just a bit of info on MS-65 eBay sales from 5/2/21. All graded by NGC. 5 RB, avg $191.66 Actual: $196.50, $180.27, $181.50, $175.00, $225.05. 5 BN, avg $134.55 Actual: $145.50, $108.50, $205.00, $103.49, $110.27.
Thank you, I really do love this coin. I hadn't thought of ANACS, I'll check it out. I don't understand the hits that IGC is taking but I hesitate to consider using them because I have an IGC graded MS67 1962d LMC that used to be a pretty solid $1,000+ coin and now they are selling like hotcakes for $50.00. It seems that buyers are automatically deducting an entire point from IGC grades which seems odd because they always had a reputation for conservative grading. Oops, ICG is the proper acronym, sorry.
I absolutely agree with you and thanks for the welcome. I definitely will never let her go but my sister and I are in disagreement about who's got the prettier Liberty Chief, so it's a matter of ridiculous pride and half a century of sibling rivalry.
Wow, it seems that the price and the interest in these pennies are widespread and very stable. I've always considered the IHC, the Mercury Dime and the 1940's Philippines coins to be the pinnacle of US coin art.
Thanks Kentucky, I checked out @Insider but I didn't see the CT reference and I'm not sure what it is. Can you expound on that? Thanks.
Thank you for pointing that out, I hadn't even noticed those. I do remember reading in several articles that any wear whatsoever prohibits a UNC grade.
Thank you, she really is beautiful. You raise an excellent point about the denticle damage. It does appear to be mint damage, but damage it is and that has got to bring it down a bit in the end. Especially given that it is on the obverse.
