For my birthday I got a laptop which I absoluetly love, but I was given $200 about a month ago to spend, I've already spent $100, and I just spent the other $100, along with $50 I had on this coin!
It is a very beautiful coin, and it came today.
Here are the sellers photos (YUCK)

Knowing what scans can do to a coin's luster, and color, I decided to buy this toner, after all it was only at retail, and I thought the coin would look good in hand, and if not , I could simply return it.

Well I got the coin today and I am blown away, this is one heck of a coin!
I am sending it to Todd along with my OBH Nickel so I can do the coin's some justice! MAN O MAN! :D
This coin looks fantastic in hand, and has full steps, even though the slab blurs out a spot on the slab.

Without further ado, I give you, my birthday present!

And a special shout out to Paul, who has made me the Jefferson collector I am today! :D
Thanks Paul, and thanks for giving me advice on this Jefferson and that other one I considered about buying :)

Comments or questions are always accepted and appreciated :)

    Travis,

Congrats on the new pickup. I bet you now have a very good understanding of what I refer to as "quintessential" war nickel toning. I can tell from your photos that the obverse of this coin is blanketed in that distinctive iridescent cobalt blue and lime green that is so common on the manganese alloyed coins. Until you have seen this toning in person, you simply can't appreciate it's beauty. I feel genuine sorrow for all of those war nickel collectors who pursue the blast white roll fresh nickels who have never seen what a war nickel can become. I am glad you are happy with this coin and eagerly anticipate seeing Todd's photo of this outstanding coin.

The Jefferson design does not immediately impress most collectors. They find the design rather boring and the entire series mired by strike and quality problems. There are no key dates to make the series famous and the coin is still in circulation which prohibits nostalgia. All of these reasons contribute to the relatively poor popularity of the series and explains your utter hatred for the series just a few short months ago.

The only cure for this apathy towards the series is to see a toned superb premium gem Jefferson Nickel in hand. The visual effect of these coins is no less pronounced than that of a premium gem in any other series. I have full confidence that you understand my point even others may not.

Once Todd's photos are back, let's see how closely your coin resembles this "quintessential" war nickel.

Great description on Jefferson collecting there :thumb:
I feel that I too was one of those people who just sat back and said, "What is so special about them nickels?"
Blast white coins can be beautiful, but nothing stunning especially on this design. Coins like this, that are toned are absolutely fantastic!
I now see the beauty in the series, and I must say I'm impressed. Lehigh, it took some wearing down, but you sure turned me into a Jefferson Nickel collector! And I find myself liking these coins a little more than I like morgans!
This coin is amazing, and I even anticipate seeing Todd's photos. He is going to FUN, and he has to photograph a lot of coins, so he wont be back for a little while, and the best time I can get him to photograph the coins is mid January, so I should have the coins back, a little bit before February, depending on when I send them.

Beautiful coin Travis! Stunning!! And, by the way, even though Todd will be at FUN (hanging out at my table, by the way!), once he gets back and photographs your coin, you can get the photo immediately online, well before the coin is returned! Can't wait to see his photo of this little puppy!

Didn't even think of that! DOH! :)
I'm having him do the editing too, I want the photos to be perfectly cropped around the edges, because as you can see I am not the best at that
And I am interested in seeing what this coin looks like as well!
Thanks Charmy ;) Sure is a beauty

Most everyone knows that I am a Jefferson Nickel collector and a toned war nickel freak. What you may not know is that I am currently researching auction and sale information of every dramatically rainbow toned Jefferson Nickel that I can find. The minute I saw Todd's fantastic photo, I recognized this coin as a previous member of the Anaconda Inventory. Here is an opportunity to view images of a monster toned coin professionally photographed by two of the best in the business.

My only problem with the coin is that the reverse strike is so bad that it really should preclude the MS67 grade. If the obverse was perfect I could understand, but those are not planchet flaws on the cheekbone. Who am I kidding, I would still pay $1,000 for it.

Happy Birthday T$!! Congrats on your new nickel... thought for sure I'd be seeing a proof IHC when I opened this thread, but there's plenty of time for one of those.

T$: I half expected a MS64 Quarter Eagle to pop up here, but I also realised how much Nickels are beginning to form a home in your collection! Congrats again!

This is a toner that does not knock my socks off. Like you mention the reverse strike is weak and the coin itself is a dark for my taste. I would prefer one of the steel grey coins you mention above. I think those are real fun and will see if I can find pics of some. That reminds me I need to find 42 for my proof set.

Wow! Very nice indeed. It is coins and posts like yours that recently pulled me into collecting Jefferson's. I never thought I would be really interested in them, but I seemed to have caught the bug as of late. I originally planned to start a Morgan date set, but I got distracted on the way and have made a few purchases of pre-war Jeffs. I got my feet wet and so far I like the water! :thumb:
