Is this PMD or a die break?

    Looks like damage to me. Looks like raised lines on the edge indicating a scratch.

    Helen, a die break will be raised because the die has a crack in it and the metal will fill in the crack. If the area in question is incuse (like a groove) it is PMD!!!

    This looks like PMD. A die crack will leave a raised crack as it fills with metal in the minting process. A scratch does not.

    Your gut feeling was that it was damage and you were correct. As you see more of this type of damage, and some actual die breaks, you will be able to tell the difference almost instantly. Keep on looking and educating yourself.
