Persia (Post-Mongol). Timurids. Timur (Tamerlane), AH 771-807 / AD 1370-1405. Fals (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.00 g), Samarqand, without date, AH 785-786 = AD 1383-1384. Tamgha of Timur on the obverse (3 rings). Rev. In inner field, name of the mint. Zeno-43225. Rare.

Timur Khan or more commonly known in the west as Tamerlane or "Timur the Lame" (given he had a handicap and was lame due to injuries sustained), was a famous but cruel conqueror around the 14th century from Central Asia. He claim descendancy from Genghis Khan. He founded the Timurid Empire which included Iran, Afghanistan and Transoxania. Whilst an effective Commander and conqueror, his cruelty was such that saw many perished. Following the legacy of his Mongol predecessors, he even built a pyramid of skulls from his victims as a deterrent and to instill fear to those who opposed him. IMG_20210625_190627_532.jpg

    Yes, both are Timurid.

The first coin is a dirham of Timur, citing his nominal Chaghatayid (Mongol) overlord Suyurghatmish, Samarqand mint, AH 785. Album 2375.

The second is a countermarked type of Abu Sa'id Gurkan, 1451-1469, on what appears to be a silver tanka dated 854 of his predecessor at Samarqand, 'Abd Allah, 1450-1451. Album 2417 on 2415.
