Hello. My name is Will. I have been browsing this website for some time, it has been a great source of information. What is this?
I have seen this many times esp on 1983 and 1986 denver mint Lincolns. I honestly have no idea. I used to think its where people tried to remove a "D" mintmark.....:goofer:
It's not an error. It's a popped blister. A blister pushed up by subsurface corrosion. Eventually the blister ruptured.
Mike, I was trying to think of a word to describe the coin and you hit the nail on the head with your explanation. ( I was thinking along the lines of a pimple) LOL..
Thank you for your replies. I appreciate the humorous responses. This "penny pimple" is mighty appropriate - I am definitely pushing through the adolescent stages of my numismatic pursuits. I must admit, before magnification I thought I may have found a nice RPM. I will certainly hold on to this one, and others I may find, to pass right on to a friend of mine.
It is a penny pimple that slightly resembles an RPM. A cheap trick so to speak. Coin would serve as a good way to teach a friend about subsurface corrosion. Thank you again for your replies.
