Have a look. Graded by PCGS.

I've been way of lately, but I'll guess AU-58

I'll go 55. Wonderful example regardless of the numerical grade!

Just enough original luster remaining on the periphery to squeak in a AU50

AU details. I see a lot of hairlines in that coin indicative of a cleaning.

AU details. Had a good scrubbing, and has retoned. If it got a straight grade, it should not have. Look at the face—it has very clear cleaning marks.

I agree, but I dont think Santini would show us a details coin. Right or wrong, I have seen PCGS and NGC overlook what I consider obvious cleaning on some of these harder dates. And Anacs in their old soapbox holders. I can only afford circulated examples on these tough Morgan years but I am very picky about them.

It is so obviously cleaned. No matter what the label says, it has been cleaned, and not lightly. Look at the reverse—there are big patches where it was obviously wiped. Yes it is a difficult date, but not a sterling example of that date. Sorry, but I call it the way it is.

This coin is clearly harshly cleaned. There is no doubt about it.

I think its AU-55 details based on the dull areas in front of the face and behind her head . Also the reverse . On the obverse appears to have numerous scratches all going the same way.
If its just the lighting then I can see it straight graded as its hard to get a feel for the color of the coin by the pics.

Without the cleaning, I'd say 55. I think PCGS let the cleaning slide, but hit it in grade down to AU50.

Well. A lot of different opinions here. Coin is not here so I can’t try another photo as suggested. Here’s the reveal:

What interesting colors on that. It does look cleaned. They left some luster behind, though. Cleanings don't always get all the luster.

I don't think it should be called harshly cleaned. Possibly wiped. It's circulated. Circulated coins pick up rub. They get slid across surfaces. I wonder if some think of what you see on a cleaned MS morgan and try to translate that to a circulated coin.
