I'm still waiting around on the real pictures. If you really do own the coin then by all means take some better pictures for us to see - or fess up and let us know that you just made it up. Speedy
You know I would like to touch back on this. What you said here, is basically saying that you are using a different coin to show what yours looks like. I'd be really interested on seeing an actual photo, or a good scan of the coin.
http://cgi.ebay.com/1964-PCGS-PF68-...mQQptZCoins_US_Individual?hash=item45ee8fdcf1 ... so all these must be your coins also ? You have a lot of nice coins on the 'bay... or just an eeirly similar coin to your avatar's ?
Yeah, what a crock that was. Looks like someone got caught with their hand in the cookie jar so to speak. Quite a story...
Regardless of the above --- I don't think a Gobrecht dollar collection can be "completed." At least, not for less than a gazillion dollars. Ivy Press (Heritage) has just released a new book called Gobrecht Dollars Illustrated by the Collection of Julius Korein, M.D. Dr. Korein's collection included 70 examples counting splashers, originals, restrikes, mules, fantasy pieces, and 39 examples of the most common Gobrecht, the 1836 Name on Base Judd-60 (Pollock-65). He also had seven of the Judd-104 1839 Regular Issue restrike. But several of his other Gobrechts have populations of 2/3. All of those coins went to the ANS when Dr. Korein died.
Now you have a 1836 Gobrecht & a 1922 Peace dollar. All you need to do is get all the US dollars minted in between:smile.
Dick Osburn just sold a PCGS PR04 Original J-60 descibed as: "I seldom see these coins in low grades without problems. A rare opportunity to get a certified example for under $10k. No issues, just well-worn. Old tan tone. Probably cleaned, but PCGS didn't think so " http://dickosburn.com/Inventory.cfm
For those who like olde silver, Dick Osburn is a great guy to know. Great coins, square dealer. Seated Liberty and before. Interesting fellow - he worked for the Space Program during the Apollo era.
Now that you guys are done debating the relative rarity of dollar coins, I, for one, would really like to see photos of the OPs coin. The Gobrecht dollar is a coin I've fantasized owning, but wonder if I will ever.
