Cherrypickers Guide, A Guide Book of Lincoln Cents (Bowers), or The Complete Guide to Lincoln Cents (Lange). Please help!

Depends on what you want to collect. I see you are a CONECA member so I assume varieties are your thing, in which case I would definitely buy Cherrypickers' 5th edition, volume I (half cents through nickels). (In fact I would buy it anyway.) You can do some major cherrypickin at coin shows if you absorb the info there. But for regular ol' cent collecting, I would go with Bowers or Lange, both are good but Bowers' is more recent. Good luck!

Good luck erwizard, you are doing the right thing to buy the book before the coin. I hope! Also learn the fine points of grading, which would include a study of the branch mint issues in particular.

I would like to add a book, even though I have not yet finished it, that is great for a variety hunter of Lincolns, the newly released " The Authoritative Reference on Lincoln Cents, 2nd edition" by John Wexler and Kevin Flynn. The photos are large and sharp, leaving little doubt for most comparisons.

I bought my hardbound copy from John, I'm pretty sure he is out of the hardbound copies, but may have softcovers on hand.

If I were you and you can afford it, I'd buy all three, plus the book Jim mentioned, as they are all great reference materials. I personally like the Lange book best as far as cents go, but thats just me.
