Hey I looking for opinions. Is this homestead quarter jacked up from years of abuse or a mint problem. It just doesn't seem as crisp as the mint photos I'm looking at. My magnifying glass isn't the best, but I think it looks like garbage from the minting. But all know is I know nothing.
It has definitely been circulated. The other issue it may have is planchet roughness. Clad planchets are very dense and a lot of the roughness is not removed by the strike.
Vending machines are rough on quarters. Could have spent a few turns through a few of them like a carwash. making it look rough like that.
Just 6 years of wear and tear…kinda like a car…a 6 year old car is going to have a few dings and nicks…Welcome to Coin Talk…imo…Spark
That sounds weird Don't say Messed up or looks like garbage from the Mint Here are some wording we use.. I looks like a Mint Error or it looks like PMD - Post Mint Damage Welcome to CoinTalk
we ALL had to learn one step at a time. So welcome to coin talk and be like me and soak up all you can in here. These folks are good at what they do. Grab some coins and have fun.
I've heard that term "grease" and I have no idea what that means. Should I look up something on how coins are minted?
Grease on the die when minting can leave a slight muddy surface, or radiating lines of muddy channels.
@Helen L Byers. You can read about grease filled dies on this site: http://www.error-ref.com/?s=grease+filled+die error-ref.com also explains how other kind of errors on coins occur. It's an excellent teaching tool.
