I own coins valued in 5 figures; I own coins that I couldn't sell for double figures, but this coin has been my favorite for nearly 60 years--the one that started it all for me when I found it while playing in the park. I soon learned that it was called a 1917 type 1 Standing Liberty quarter in EF (yes, back in the day we realized that extremely was spelled with an E). As an 11 year old boy all I knew was "NAKED BOOB!!!) I've been a bustchaser ever since. I have to admit that after 50 years as an everyday pocket piece she shows her age.
Sorry to all my friends out there, but right now, it's 100%... This one Shout out to @Eric the Red for this. Holy moly.
Back in 2008 I fell into hard times having to sell everything I owned, including my small, modest budget coin collection. my pride and joy was the 2006 Silver Eagle Anniversary Set MS69 that at the time was a very hot item that really saddened me having to let go of it after saving up for it and chasing a good deal down. well past a decade later I managed have that special set back in my life with a higher grade & added bullion coin. (They need fresh holders due to scratches but no milk spots)
This Athenian Tetradrachm is definitely my favorite. I love how old it is. When this coin was minted there were still people alive who fought against the Persians at the Battle of Salamis while King Leonidas of Sparta and his 300 Spartans (and thousands of allies) were fighting at Thermopylae.
This 3 cent piece is my favorite because it belonged to my dad. He found it while turning over a garden as a young boy. (born 1904).
Nice looking piece! I have one of those as well, not quite as nice as yours, but the design is really interesting.
Just one favorite?! Wow. It would depend on the day that someone asks me, I guess. Regardless, I would probably reference this one quite a bit:
This is one that I don't have to think about. It's not because this is a pretty coin, it isn't, but because of what it means to me. Many years ago when my aunt moved out of her house into a nursing home we found a drawer with a couple of hundred coins, mostly Indian Head pennies. Because I was the coin collector in the family they ended up with me. There were 2 1877's in the drawer. I kept the better one (this one). So yes, the other one was worse. This coin kind of jump-started me getting serious about collecting.
Well my favorite coin hasn't changed since this was asked a few months ago in another post, but I can now post pictures of it, because I have it back in hand. This Coin i got from my mother. I promised her I would keep it, and I will do that until I pass it down to my son. She wore it in her shoe in November 1930, when she and my father got married. My daughter-in-law wore it in her shoe in November 2019, when she married my son. And, I was honored to perform the ceremony. So, here is the Coin, a 1912 D Liberty Nickel.
Picked two of these up at a coin show in Syracuse, NY in 1999. Put them in flips and left them in a plastic “Eagle” box that I only opened each year to put in new ASE eagles. Over the years a few toned to some degree but this one is my favorite.
