I know this is pretty common on old sealed proofs . I broke open a set of 1964 Proofs today and the coins are all really nice minus one dark spot on the reverse of the penny and one spot near the 1 by the date on the Kennedy . Should I just leave them be? Minus that spot that Kennedy is really nice . here are a few pics of the areas in question. I am having a tough time getting decent pics with my set up at work but the areas in question are easy to see.
Leave the cent alone. There is nothing positive you can do for it. Messing with it will only make it worse.
Those black spots aren't coming off the Lincoln. Sorry. I could see maybe maybe getting the discoloration off the Kennedy by dipping it...but you're probably much more likely to ruin the coin before you do so.
Anything you go to remove the spot will also damage the coin. I have several coins that that has happened too.
Thanks all I’m not going to touch them. I’ll give the cent to my son . The Kennedy I will keep since it’s a super nice coin minus the spot . At least it’s kinda out of the way
