This is about the scam of the Morgan,Franklin, and northwest territorial mints.Such as coins "layered" gold coins. The colorized and holographic coin stickers. The overpriced coins and "guarantees" are exposed.

Gold coins are just "layered" in a very thin layer of "24 karat" gold. The gold flakes off the coin and damages it.Leaving yellow spots all over it.

Colorized and holographic coins are made by stickers on the surface of the coin just like gold paint it flakes off and at the end the coins has color spots all over it.Colorized coins are considered damaged my many experts.

Its even hard to buy regular coins, most common date Morgan dollars are usually between $100-$1000 per coin.Real gold coins are always $800-$2000 per coin. The same thing applies to every other silver coin:(. A few months ago I got the Presidential Dollar Completion Program from the Franklin mint for $9(at checkout it was $20) a few weeks later i got my package of 4 dollars.I looked at the "mint security seal" an i found a hair:eek:.The mint says all the dollars are uncirculated but, mine looks like it was in dirt. They say they give you 1 more per 90 days, its been 8 months and no coin for me so STAY AWAY FROM ANY STORE THAT HAS MINT IN ITS NAME.

    late night TV

Late last night (hey, I was bored and couldn't sleep ) one of the TV ads was pushing their commemorative copy of the 1877 $50 half union as being plated with 34 milligrams of pure 24 carat gold ($1.20 at current gold price). And what a deal, only $19.95 plus shipping & handling. A brilliant proof, even on non-HD TV, it was a mediocre copy at best.
I believe these are the same [adjectives withheld to avoid violating CT's rules about language, slurs, etc,] people pushing their proof finish homage to the 1929 half eagle (same price).

The TV shopping channels are bad enough. This stuff is just junk.

If you are educated in the field of coins you know not to buy from the people on TV.
I for one, never have bought anything from TV, I just watch to watch. HSN's Coin Collector is very entertaining to watch, same with ShopNBC's Coin Shoppe.
I enjoy being up at 4 AM watching them go on and on about how everyone watching needs this Presidential Dollar graded at Brilliant Uncirculated by NGC, yada, yada, yada. :)
As long as you know not to buy the shows are alright... :D They just wait for the uneducated buyer to get drawn in by their marketing schemes.

I just saw that ad again and it was 51 mg of pure gold, not 34, so it is now valued at $1.80. Such a bargain. And, they will send you a silver plated ASE for free! What a deal :headbang:

What bothers me is since they are not "coins", they don't have to have "copy" stamped on them. Some less scrupulous (if there is such a thing) people could buy up a couple of dozen--slap em in some fake slabs and sell them to some unsuspecting rube for bigs bucks. Yes-No?

I enjoy watching the Coin Vault and sometimes Jimmy Gruestel if he would just sell coins and not talk so much!! Being a newer collector I get a lot of history and info from theese two shows. Only when all of my other 150 channels have nothing to watch. I have bought some coins off TV not many just didn't know any better at the time.

An entrepreneur might think to supply a free folder having hundreds of holes for you to fill with their holographic coin stickers. The public will need to buy a stickered holographic coin every week/month/year until all the holes are filled.
