no I didn't mean on one side of the coin - but look at where the "fingerprint" is said to be - if a finger, and I would say in most cases a thumb, was placed there wouldn't it show in more places than just the cheek and right behind the hair?
Wouldn't it show ON the hair, and braid?

so let me get this straight....you posted the coin for sale on another forum when in fact, you had no intention to sell it? A TEST? Pretty flaky seems to me......and yes.....you do seem to bring all kinds of problems on yourself.

So folks, if this indeed is a fingerprint like most of you think it is(and not die erosion) , are you really sure I can't send this to NCS to get it removed? It's just such a bummer because the coin is a cutie!

What on earth does Christmas eve have to do with the commets that the psoters have made?

Does this mean that any other time of the year that their comments would be okay?

Comments like this always amaze me.

I am really sure. The acidic properties of the oils that make the fingerprint etch the coin. So, the metal itself is altered. If you don't like the coin as it is, I suggest you sell it and purchase another one because you will never be satisfied with it otherwise.

I'm having a dealer friend of mine send it to NGC for their Appearance Review and it may get sent over to NCS and fixed up at no cost.

We'll see and I'll keep each and every one of you updated.

I don't know exactly how this works...but I assume you have to pay shipping and insurance both ways. IMHO, it's not worth it if that's the case. It looks to be either a fingerprint or die erosion (and it appears to be a fingerprint in all likelihood). Since the print wasn't immediately removed, it would have irreversibly imprinted on the coin. On top of that, this coin is graded an AU58...meaning it is circulated. A fingerprint is acceptable and marketable on a AU coin so I don't think NGC will do anything for you there. Plus, there is nothing NCS could do to remove the fingerprint as the coin would be etched. So, in the end I don't think anything will change with this coin. If it is completely free (shipping and everything) then there is no harm in it...but if it is going to cost you something to do this, IMHO it's not worth it.

I'm going to disagree. I think another opinion is worthwhile, and the cost to send to NGC is relatively small considering the value of the coin.

That said, I think that had BnB gotten someone whose eye he trusted to view the coin beforehand, all this trouble could have been averted. Not only would these type of issues never have happened, but in the end it would likely result in a better coin and a happier BnB.

    Live and learn...Mike

For shipping and insurance, I truly don't mind taking the risk.

I'm not sure we should judge a numismatist by their other interests, as long as they are not unethical in nature. I only took a cursory look at the videos so I'll refrain from passing any judgment.
