My collection ~ $4.95 ...the most expensive one is the one I have not bought yet. All said and done, a 1 cent match could make it all disappear.

It's value is for my Son to decide one of these days.

I couldn't have put it any better.

My most valuable coin is a 1924 Saint Gaudens $20 gold piece that I received when I inherited my dad's coins back in 1990. My father was a silver collector but he bought this as a once in a lifetime purchase.

The first time he showed it to me his eyes were as big as saucers.

Of wait, those were MY eyes...:D

Isn't that the coin that sent your wife on a mad shopping spree?

"Well, if you can spend that kind of money so can I!"

I think I know what it is but will never tell. Basically it would have exhausted my numismatic budget for 3-4 years...

You indeed remember the incident well. I got a call whilst I was in Netherlands - at something like 3AM! Oh yes, I told her she could go on a wild shopping spree, even in NYC, but she is a penny pincher and would never go.

I was given a friendly PM not to disclose any info on what you have or where you have it, but my small collection isn't worth stealing anyway and it isn't worth looking down the business end of my mossberg 930 spx!

I guess we both married penny pinchers. A blessing in disguise I suppose.

What's my collection worth? Less than I paid for it but that's ok. I collect coins, not invest in them:D.

3 bucks on a good day. Most expensive.. Hmmm probably the elongated cent I received at the state show. I keep it with me at all times, its taped to my S&W MP .40 so if somebody wants one, they get both. Ask for my copper, get some lead.

I don't keep track of the value of my coins or collection, so I have no idea without a few days research which is most valuable dollar-wise. Aside from that, a chunk of my collection is absolutely priceless as many pieces have been handed down through the years by family and friends. How can I put a price on that?

Coleguy is right, if something has been passed down in your family, that is more valuable than something that is worth a ton of money. Someday, he can say, "This has been in my family for XX generations, and I will passed it to my kids."

Any coin I have and do not offer for sale is for that moment priceless otherwise I would sell it. As time goes on almost everthing is for sale.
There are very few "not for sale" any longer after all "it's just stuff, neat stuff to be sure but just stuff.

  17. Not much. That comes from being poor your whole life. I can hold my entire collection in one hand. And I'm not anywhere near elligible for the World's Strongest Man competiton!

It hasn't happened yet but I've gotten pretty close to spending my collection for food money in the past.

It's obvious that some of you are being less then honest in your posts, just to throw off the criminals that may or may not be watching....I only wish that I was. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I probably have the lowest amount of spending money of any coin collector on any forum.

As for most valuable singe coin? I couldn't care less about book value, (less then 10 coins I own would be "worth" more then face, and some are probably "worth" less then face value due to condition!) but I have a handfull of worn Peace and Morgan dollars that I am at least the third generation in my family to be in posession of, perhaps even fourth. That is magical. If my family stops with this generation, they will be buried with me.

I think I win for smallest and poorest collection. I just started a few months ago and I wish I could do more but I'm poor. My collection also fits in one hand is weighs maybe two pounds, but there is nothing special or valueable in my collection, just some common cheap stuff you guys have had for years.

  19. Those of us on here who can't afford many coins should form a "dreaming of coins club", like the people who actually have coins have coin clubs :)

I like that idea, kinda, but are coins really that expensive? Sorry if that is a dumb question but I'm new. The only coins that I see that are super expensive is the Gold American Eagles and Maple Leafs but those are bullion and not old currency. Is old currency expensive?

Just like coins, it depends on a lot of factors. I have paper notes that are 100 years old that I got for less than $5. I have bills from 2008 that are $450.

Some very early foreign notes can be had for a dollar or two and are stunning examples.

    Depends on what you like.:smile
