I had a pair of coins come in today. I really wouldn't believe that I owned these until they arrived. I resigned myself to just admiring them, but never actually being in the position to own them. Very limited mintage. Despite what the label says, I think less than 800 pairs were actually made. They've been "reissued" earlier this year, and I got a few of those, but the originals have remained elusive, until . . . . . Late last week there was a fleaBay auction. It was largely unnoticed by most because the seller was kind of describing these as though they were the reissue pieces, and not the originals. No matter, I saw what I saw, executed a fairly lowball snipe, and low and behold . . . . they arrived today! I bid half of what I've seen them consistently sell for, and won at 60% of my max bid . . . . Z @dwhiz , @Evan Saltis , this win is dedicated to you'ze guys, but no, I'm not parting with them . . . . .
Kentucky, Here is a link to the guy who made the originals, and the reissues. https://www.landisstudios.net/product-page/felix-schlag-jefferson-nickel-planchet Here is his write-up on the re-releases . . . . Z
I didn't know anything about them, but I found this after a little poking around... https://forums.collectors.com/discu...ickel-jfsnc-award-winning-design-two-coin-set
Yes very cool, these nickels made Landis very popular back in the day but he's also designed other Medals and Tokens as well, so many collectors know his work. He definitely has talent and a following for sure!
