Can anyone please tell me more about this silver certificate that is listed on my local craislist? The link is below. The photos are quite bad and even though I easily could be wrong, his asking price seems a bit steep. Any info or thoughts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Since I am not familiar with how Craigs List works, the link you provided is no help. It only opens my email program. Can you post a picture or let us know what city you are in so we can try to find the note?

    Hawaiian $

on the question as to why this note is so much (and in the assumption that you are not familiar with them), US Currency that circulated in Hawaii in the days following Pear Harbor were special notes that were stamped HAWAII on both front and back. The idea was that if the Japanese successfully invaded Hawaii, the US could devalue (to zero) these notes and prevent any invaders from using the currency.

I have one such note given to me by a friend who spent WWII in the Pacific Theatre. It's not it great condition, but I'll never sell it, too much history behind it.

    Merry Christmas eve to all

You are correct. I am not very familiar with these, but found it quite interesting. As the ad states, he is asking $40 for it. I did look at another posting here about what looks to be the same bill, and someone had quoted a price range. I am kind of curious as to the approximate "value" of this one. Any help will be appreciated. Both of my late grandfathers fought in the Pacific during the war and I thought that this may be something interesting to some day give to my children. Thanks.

    World War II Emergency Notes

In Gem Unc (66 and up) conditions, $1 Hawaii (Fr. 2300) notes start at $200+
    in Good condition ~$20
    in Very Fine $40
These are estimates as I am not a currency expert, just someone who who can navigate the Heritage http://currency.ha.com/ website.

I too was a curious as to why he sent only a photo of the back, but he did agree to send actual scans later tonight. I have a feeling that his asking price is something that he just came up with and has no real knowledge of the bill either. I made it clear that the most I would pay is it's fair value per condition, and from what I have read, it seems that the "hunch" I had that it was well over-priced is true. I'll post the other scans when I receive them. Thanks again.

Here are the other photos. A very small one of the front and a large of the back. This has become more of a curiosity and hopeful learning experience to me. May I ask opinions of the bills grade according to the photos? Coins, I know. Currency is rather new to me so any thoughts will again be greatly appreciated. Thank you and Merry Christmas!
