God forbid! You cannot leave your mail unanswered for 18 hours Christmas week. (It would not shock me that you get no answer until after Christmas.) Maybe I am too much the eternal optimist, but it more looks to me like someone sold him some counterfeits that he did not catch. I looked at the rest of his coin. Not that my opinion counts for much, but I saw nothing obviously wrong to me. At least all the 9's look good.
Funny how EBAY will take your money in a split second, but when you want to get your money back and the seller won't respond, you get this: "Sorry, you can't leave negative or neutral Feedback for this PowerSeller until 7 days after purchase." I think I'm done with buying coins from EBAY
If you file with PayPal. you WILL get your money back. They probably also have a hold for x days on that one to assure that you try to communicate with the seller, but you will get your money back.
You'll probably get your money back, but it will be a hassle. Then you are going to have to go and report this guy.
I'm sure I'll get my money back. It's just a hassle. In the meantime, I can't leave negative feedback, so the seller still has a stellar Powerseller rating and 99.8% positive feedback. It's sort of a joke because there are statements in the feedback section for this seller like, "great communication..." , etc, and I can't even get this guy to respond to an e-mail. I find it hard to believe a Powerseller who deals on EBAY doesn't have time to respond to an e-mail.
If you call, I think you will be surprised at how little effort is required. And, as I stated before, I find it extremely inconsiderate of you to expect you email to be answered in less that one day - anytime of the year, but especially Christmas week. Just because you are a power seller does not mean that you are required to sit by your computer 24/7 let alone once per week.
No phone number for the seller I bet you wouldn't find it inconsiderate if it was your $283. I get about 200 e-mails a day and I pick every one up within a few minutes. That's what Blackberries, IPhones, laptop computers, etc are for. Somebody who's livelyhood depends on EBay is techno-savvy enough to respond to an e-mail. It's been 21 hours now and still not a peep from the seller.
Not the seller's phone number although you can get that by simply requesting it though eBay. Anyone can get the seller's phone number so long as he has bought from them recently. You call PayPal to file your dispute - 1-866-643-3720. As for keeping in touch, I, for one, have none of the above save a laptop. They still are not required.
I am home - not visiting right now. Can you assure me your seller is at home? Maybe he is taking it to a dealer to find out if it really is a fake and the dealer is away. He might even be in the hospital dying - and, yes, that has happened to buyers before. You have no idea. Despite your impatients, eBay's requirement to answer is typically 7 days. Yes, that long.
Many people in the northern part of the US probably are having problems with their internet due to snow. Even in the southern desert of Calif, last night and today has seen stoppages and slow response due to high winds. Happy holidays to all. Jim
I looked at this item and had it in my EBay 'Watching' list for a while. I was unaware that it is fake too until reading this. I lucked out but I sure appreciate the original poster for coming public with this. ----- This is a very unfortunate situation but the strengths of such forums as this one are manifest. I have previously done business with this seller and I suspect that he was as much an unsuspecting victim as yourself (the buyer) and that I'm confident that he will make it good. ----------- This is the season for charity and forgiveness so let us not put either out of our hearts. Except as towards those SOBs who designed and executed this fake. They'll be selling them at WalMart if we allow it. ------ And even if we do feel he expressed himself badly, which is the greater sin, to de-fraud or to expose that fraud? We were gulled! Are we executing the messenger? ------ The real question, IME, is: What other frauds have we NOT discovered?
I agree, obvious fake. I had not taken much of a look at it, but anyone who collects this series avidly (as I do) can tell that the date is way off upon examining it. I have seen other fakes and the dates all tend to be like this....too thin. When you ship it back, PLEASE use signature confirmation. That is the only way you will get your money back. It's saved my butt a few times.
I heard back from the seller. He is very sorry and did not know the coin was fake. My money has been refunded in my PayPal account. Case closed.
Ain't this forum a great thing? Just think of how something like this would have gone 10 years ago....
I probably wouldn't have figured this out 10yrs ago. Wouldn't have had any photos to compare it to. And honestly, I think it's easier to look at coins through a zoomed in high def photo, than with the naked eye. Secondly, if I had bought this coin ten years ago, it would have probably been in person rather than electronically. Which would have meant I'd have to try and recover my money the old school way - kick somebody's @ss! Thirdly, without this forum, I never would have figured this out. Or maybe I would have months or years later. I learned a great lesson, and hopefully others did as well. Thanks to all who provided such great advice!
