I am posting this even though I know the eyes of many will glaze over with boredom because it is another denarius of Domitian with a Minerva. However, as a friend told me a little while ago, who cares, it is my coin. In the end, I like it and that is good enough for me. There are 5 issues of precious metal coinage for Domitian in 86 CE. With the addition of this coin, I am only missing a coin from issue #4. Within these 5 issues there are only 2 common coins. These include 1 denarius and 1 quinarius. So, in the whole year of 86 CE there is only one common denarius! I am very happy to add this coin from issue #3. Now let us talk about the coin itself. I have often commented that the portraits of Domitian on the denarii between the years of 84-88 have some great portraits. I hope that you will agree that this one is indeed in fine style. To me it is a very sympathetic portrait of Domitian. Please post any Domitian denarii from 86 CE or your favourite coin of Domitian. @Orfew congratz nice one! I have been thinking of getting all four variants maybe not able to get all rare ones but just the different types of Minerva is a nice sub-set. I have at least the RIC 164 from 83 AD so I'm happy if that is the only rare I will be able to get for this set.

Yep, like my Faustina Junior coins with Juno or Fecunditas on them! But when you are building a specialty collection, completeness counts. And when you've acquired a rarity, that the icing on the cake, isn't it?

So 86 A.D. seems to be a slow year at the mint for precious metals. I decided to look through my small, scruffy collection of Flavians to see if I had any from this year, and I do - but AE's only. I'm assuming the AE issues for that year are abundant and given their appearance, there isn't much wow factor, but here they are, from annus mirabilis 86 A.D.
