I have this coin that looks like it could have a facial error. Does anyone know how it happened or what kind of error it is. If you look at the 1917 example Liberty's face shows her whole cheek area. On my pic it shows more silver on her face than normal. On my coin pics the camera shows some type of mark which is captured by the camera but I can not see it under magnification. Is it an error on my coin or just a bad strike? My coin is the undated one, the 1917 is just an example pic. thanks
She looks like the bearded lady.... saw her at a carnival back in the 60's. Can't help you on this one.
It's a 1944 MS63 by NGC. Any ideas? I didn't have it graded, I got it that way. You can see a small smear of excess silver on her neck, not enough to say it's a Adam's apple but enough to know it's more than was needed.
I can't really make it out but does the line continue onto the neck? A shot with lighting from another angle might help.
Nah, it's just a little slit that goes from her jaw bone almost to her mouth. Maybe the slit is a bag mark, but it looks like it's been there since it was minted. I wish I could get better pics but it's a tough area to shoot.
Sorry, all I see is a couple of dings on Liberty's face, probably having a good deal to do with why it's graded MS63. This is a fairly common place for such contact marks.
Yeah, I know it's a bit hard to see but if you look at another one next to it it becomes very noticeable. If I wouldn't have put up the pic of the 1917 it would really be hard to tell. I think I may put it up on ebay if I can get a better pic. At one angle you can see the excess silver real well. I guess it's just a faulty strike of some kind.
Good, glad I heard die chip because that's what I think as well. With my lighting and camera it's really tough to improve on my pics. I get my best lighting in the master bathroom. Yeah, I really gotta improvise! I will have to get back to that idea another time. thx amigo!!
