as i said before i was in chicago not long ago and wanted to get myself something really special. black eagle F229
Congrats on your first note. The $1 Black Eagle Note Fr# 229 is a note that had a printing of 220,000,000. On the Series 1899 $1 Silver Certs there are 3date (placement's, above & below the "Serial number upper right" and vertical to right inside border) and within the Series, 11 signature varieties. With this signature pair you have it is one of the more common notes, there has only been ~21-24 Star Notes reported for the Fr.229* which make those very collectible. This Fr# also has a very rare Vernon-McClung vertical (date placement) star note with only 2 known currently. What a nice first set that would be for you to assemble for a collection. Might I remind you that while most of these notes are obtainable in higher grades, the Star Notes will be quite costly, as will the non-replacement notes of this Issue as well. What a Grand sight it would be to see a set. Congrats again. RickieB
Great start for a paper collection. My first note was a 1963 Barr $1, that I was sure would be worth thousands in a couple years. :goofer:
Congrats! I love the old 1899 black eagles. From the pic, it looks to have some awesome punch thru embossing.
Congrats Lugia. A beautiful note and a great design! I love the large blue seal on these. I see some embosding from the SN too.
it maybe a collection ill never finish but i didnt want to limit myself to coins. any suggestions on where i would send this if i were to get it pro graded?
I think the word is out ,my opinion originally "if I saw a nice note in a "CXX" holder @ a good price I would buy it" has changed from what I have read.PCGS & PMG have the trust/experience and integrity for me .
**************************** Good for you. That is a wise decision. I would go ahead and continue to purchase CXX graded notes. Just bid according to this rule. If it's slabbed as an AU 58, bid as though it was a VF35 which is most likely what it will come back as if graded by the big 2. I would use this method as the unofficial CXX "grading conversion chart" system.
