    Here is the books maker.

I can remove them but need to get something to place them in if needed. Any suggestions?

Put them in cardboard 2x2'S and crimp down those staples.Im not a specialist on albums e.t.c but if the slots fell oily and flexible then probably PVC and remove them ASAP.

Do NOT attempt to wipe them or clean them in any way. Only hold them when you have to by the edge

PCGS coin facts shows a period after each of the coins engravers initials. (V. D. B.) The quality of the pictures that are posted are poor but when I enlarge them I don’t see the periods on your example.

I can't actually see/ID the VDB at the bottom of the reverse on the 1909-S...but it might be me/my computer or the lighting.

As mentioned, have them professionally evaluated before you do ANYTHING with them. Many of the large auction houses offer evaluation of collections, for a fee. I think because you are not a collector and don't have experience with these coins, it would be money well spent.
What are you hoping to do with the set is an important question to ask yourself.
    Good luck.

First and foremost I am looking to preserve it in the best manor possible. Hence why I come here for answers and what to do :)

I have other coins and medals like his "Silver Star Medal" that have more sentential value to me and as I am not a collector I would like someone who is to appreciate them more than I will so I will most likely sale these.

Then, in my opinion, sending them to someone like Heritage or one of the other well known auction houses for evaluation and sale would make sense.

I would leave them alone until you know exactly what you have. Getting coins out of those Harco sleeves can be tricky and you don't want to add any hair lines or scratches taking them out. That mistake will cost you $$$.

I understand the concern over PVC, but the later Harco albums used Mylar sleeves. While PVC residue is a big concern, I don't see any indication of it on your coins. Even if there is some light residue, it won't hurt anything to wait for a few weeks to have the set checked by a professional.

BTW: @potty dollar 1878 if you just transfer the coins to a 2x2 without properly removing the PVC residue, you've accomplished nothing. The residue Is still on the surface and will continue to react to form hydrochloric acid and damage the coin.

By the pictures I don't see anything like that yet but yes they might look different in person.

I have contacted Heritage and they are reviewing these for grading.

    Thank you for your help!

I can't remember when Harco changed plastic. The year they did , I used acetone to remove any residue and replaced the old sliding plastic with the new Mylar ones. Only a couple of coins in the 40s-50s with no real significance had to be replaces.
If they are stiff , they are their Mylar ones. ( Still have a couple of packages of the replacements someplace here. Jim

Make that 3 of us. I had a set of Barber quarters in such an album, but I got the coins out as soon as I spotted the green around the edges on some of the coins. And I remember handling a collection of a man who had a full set of Morgan dollars in such albums, and most of the coins were a mess. Pretty easy to remove the slime as I recall, but the damage might already be done if you wait.

HARCO coinmaster, the pages in the original absolutely had PVC and smelled like shower curtains, they did make non-pvc pages and were replacing them free of charge when the company was in business still, but the damage was already done.

Not sure if you have the old PVC pages, or the new non-pvc ones, but better to be safe instead of sorry.

Literally anything is better than leaving them in the PVC, but the good news is, I don't visibly see any green or funky going on yet in the pictures, which leads me to believe they are the non-pvc replacement pages, but still, better safe than sorry, many a collection and some high priced coins were amaged by these albums.

That said, try to keep the album in the best condition you can after removing the coins carefully, Harco isn't in business anymore, and the album itself might have collector value, not for holding coins, but as a collector item itself.

in their day the albums were nice, and classy, that was their appeal. until people figured out the catastrophe of PVC, that was the album to have.

These existed in the 1980s and 1990s. not sure when they started, the owner died and company went out of business around 2000.

I wouldn't put coins in it, but I'd love to have one put up for long term as an example of what Harco produced.

Here's one on EBay, still in the wrap. So you could see how it was when it was new, clearly in the advertisement picture, they were vinyl (PVC) but nobody knew back then what would happen over the years.
