this thread is made just for mules: what do you think of them? a 1859 Indian 2 headed mule exists here http://www.coinfacts.com/error_coins/mules/1859_double_headed_cent.htm
wow! you do learn something new everyday! thank you for sharing that. i now have yet another rarity to hunt for.
there are many Indian head errors on ebay:http://coins.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=indian+head+errors&_sacat=11116&_trksid=p3286.m270.l1313&_dmpt=Coins_US_Individual&_odkw=errors&_osacat=11116
Don't know that I would classify the 2 headed or two tailed coins as mules - but there are quite a few of them. You can read about some of them - HERE A mule is defined as a coin struck with 2 different designs, usually of 2 different denominations, on the same coin. One coin carrying the other as it were - thus the term mule.
I wouldn't buy many errors on eBay, unless having prior knowledge to what it is that I'm buying or being graded by a TPG. Many "ERRORS" on eBay, are just post mint garbage coins, and the sellers who damage the coins, trying to make a buck.
The obverse of this 1918 S five centavo was struck from dies intended for a twenty centavo. The only mule in my collection.
A mule is the result of the breeding of a male horse and a female donkey (or a male donkey and a female horse. I can't remember which). Since the animal mule is the result of the combining of two different animals, that is the likely origin of the numismatic term. I don't think it has anything to do with the mule's pack animal status.
i JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT A MULE WITH A FRONT OF A WASHINGTHION GUARTER AND THE FRONT OF A 1900 BARBER QUARTER
Got it from my brother in a batch of silver I bought from him. Did I tell you there was a Henning nickel in the batch?
"colonial mules" For the past few months I have been searching for a cool mule to add to my "colonial" type set and here are two examples of, what seems like, the most readily available/obtainable mulings. I think they are pretty boss and was hoping others who share my enthusiasm could post some photos and other information on different or obscure "colonial mulings."
