A while ago I was looking at this thread that was posted last year https://www.cointalk.com/threads/lets-make-a-chess-set.370925/
And wondered if a chess set based on Roman theme actually exist, so I got on ebay and just searched for a Roman themed chess set, and lo and behold they actually have one, and got one!
Although my skills are rusty, this set is making me wanna play more!

The details on these things are amazing,

I see they replaced the Bishops with Centurions, although I'd prefer a veiled Pontifex (I guess the emperors took that role as well).
Also the emperor and the empress look much like Antoninus Pius and Faustina Sr, at least to me!

    Great set, congrats!

With two opposing Roman armies, you can enact the Civil Wars.:)
Get a matching set of Carthaginians and you might even rewrite history!

I'm not into chess since my father passed. All I have left is a checkers/chess set from a 5 and 10 cents store. Anyway, that is one of the neatest chess sets i have seen. Any idea how much one would cost? I've seen other fancy chess sets in magazines and TV.

They're just plastics, but still have some heft to it.

They look great for plastic. Heft is important.

Need to rename the Queen's Gambit opening to the Empress' Gambit!

Really cool set! And, can be had for less than a single coin purchase.

The chess set I saw advertised on TV had the chess pieces made out of something solid. I think it was the Republican and Democrat pieces. It's been a while, so at 73 my memory banks are full.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

The most expensive chess set I saw was at Walt Disney World some 40+ years ago, made up of Disney characters. Each piece had a thin, gold outline on it and the set cost $365 back then.

I have several different sets myself, nothing fancy, but the smallest one is a 3x3 inch piece of metal with discs that have the picture of the piece on it. All magnetic. I'm a chess player from way back.

Nice set! There's another one made by a company called Anri called Romans versus Teutons, which might be worth checking out.

Both of those are Very cool. ...I have to remember one based on the Lewis chess set. The original is c. 12th century, from the Outer Hebrides, replete with Norse and Norman influences. The folks found it at a toy store in London, on a family trip when I was a kid. Got it the next Christmas. Yep, I was already on that trajectory....

That F1/G1 mix-up on the set-up in the OP's 1st picture is making my OCD ping hard.
