I rarely dabble in U.S. coins but I do like a few types of each and love oddities. Tonight I noticed the below Morgan on a BIN auction. I never chased or really cared for Morgan's I have like 2 in my coins, however I am a big fan of history and purchased this piece without a second thought. This is a 1887s Morgan from the Redfield collection. https://www.pcgs.com/news/a-history-of-major-us-hoards-redfield-hoard
Wow, that's an interesting story. I may need to get one of those... How long ago were they auctioned off? I don't believe PCGS mentioned.
I don’t do Facebook, so I will post what I remember. Lavar Redfield was a far right winger who had something like 450,000 silver dollars in his basement. Paramount Coin Corporation had these coins mounted in “MS-65” holders, with red inserts, and sold them. They sold for a premium for a while, but few people blindly bought into the MS-65 grade. Today they are interesting, but the coins are what they are.
I too like coins with interesting stories. I first read the Redfield story while researching this from my hand-me-down collection. It's in a black holder - lower grade than yours. But I'll never forget that story.

That's been on my want list for over 40 years. Never had the money when I was young, and never seemed to get around to buying one when I was older. I remember the story of these coming to market when I was a YN and used to think about how much fun it would be to sort through all the bags looking for rare dates
thats real cool. I had never heard of them until this popped up for auction. I hope your able to get one eventually.
