Coin been in bank bag for 5 years. Just had eye surgery and can see my coins Over 1000 pennies in the bag. Like 1939, 40 51 42 44 45 46 47 All the way to 1959
Sounds like a fun bag to search. The 1941 looks like a damaged cent as noted by the members. You can send it to a grader but your fellow enthusiasts are trying to save you some money. Altered coins a pretty common. Most are face value or less. Some may have melt value and if it has a counterstamp or engraving of interest, a premium may be had. Otherwise most are just spenders at that point.
The reason your cent weighs about the same as a Mercury dime is because it was ground down to function as a dime in vending machines. A common thing back when ten cents was real money
The coin is normal. 1941 and some 1942s do have some that are improper alloys. They are slightly heavier and have more of a gold color. I own two of them.
I have seen things like that back in the 1960's. folks used to wear down cents to make "dimes" for phone booths and Soda machines Bored? Too much time on their hands? Machines wasn't as sophisticated back in the '60's. they also had "pet dimes" to yank back with a string.
I have an older cousin that used to do just that thing. He would spend hours filing down cents to cheat pop machines.
Hey I had a 1970 d quarter that is way under weight. It happens @paddyman98 I had one. Paddy too. That’s a lot. that’s got to be special
