Hey yall, not trying necessarily to create a revolution but I was investigating ebay rules about something else, and came across this.

    https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-listings-policy?id=4252

In a nutshell all presale listings have to guarantee delivery of the item within 30 days or in violation of the rules.

Now how is it possible to list items now for presale in compliance to this rule of ebay for presale that are supposed to be delivered in October? They can't and violating the rules anyways!

I'm reporting them. If you feel like reporting them with your free time also please do, it's a mountain of presale listings for the 2021 Morgan dollars that can't possibly be delivered within 30 days with certainty and I can only do so much. These arent "presales" they are auctioning dreams and wishes.

    Thanks for looking.

And a couple hours later, realized it's a full time job trying to do this and giving up on it.

Buyers beware I guess. They will have your money for months and long after any return or complaint would be possible before it even ships, if they decide to ship it even since they have your money and spent it 4 months from now. I guess what I've reported at least draws ebay's attention to the listing's and they can decide themselves on how to police them all. I'm not continuing, for every 1 I report another 5 appear. Lol.

Thanks for trying. One would think that eBay could program listings to catch this type of abuse. I keep reporting 1893-S Morgan Dollars that are counterfeit or altered and some times eBay doesn't remove them yet the coin does not match the only obverse die characteristics with bunny rabbit ears in the R, the die gouge in the T. Also the 1 is very distinctive centered over the dentil. There is one on eBay now that hasn't been removed yet and the seller grades it VF-XF. It already has 19 bids at $2700. I'm sure eBay has enough people who could check die characteristics for the most expensive coins that are not third party graded. Counterfeit and altered coins depress buyers and ruin the hobby and never receiving a coin presold doesn't give confidence in good coin dealers.

I just read the policy and all it really says is that the product must be clearly labeled as "presale" and delivery must be "guaranteed". What happens if the guarantee isn't fulfilled? ...you can opt for a refund. The eBay sanctions only kick in if the guarantee isn't honored. It reminds me of this classic scene from the movie "Tommy Boy"...

Yeah, thanks! I'd never buy a pre-sale item slated to be delivered 4-5 months down the road. That's insane. There needs to be a clear solution to some of these Mint Sales. I've only been collecting for about 4-5 yrs, but didn't the Mint, at one time, have a time window to order items, then produce the items based on orders? I seem to remember hearing that the 10th year Anniversary Eagle Set being produced by the number of orders received? If u wanna buy in bulk you should register as a bulk buyer. I know I'm grasping at straws - but they need to get a handle on this stuff.

The first line in the policy:

Presale listings must clearly state that they are "presale" in the title and description, and guarantee shipment within 30 days of purchase.

    Very simple.

If this is the case then reporting it once should be enough to close down the auctions. You're not being paid to police ebay. Ebay workers should be doing the job.

Second hand sales are the bane of the 21st century. And sadly it is an encouraged method of sale….. Two years ago my wife’s birthday present was tickets to see Elton John that I purchased from a Ticketmaster source. Not the venue and I dropped almost $500.00 to get them. The concert was supposed to be April 2020. Guess what else happened April 2020? Yeah, Covid happened. The concert is tentatively rescheduled for mid-2022 as I understand it. So Ticketmaster gets to use my cash for two years….. I hate dealing with middle men.

With our new "Demand Side" economics and near zero interest rates. You might like the opportunity to lock in the lower price. Those tix will probably be $750 by 2022. It's hard to get that kind of ROI anywhere else. ;)

I think that patience is highly recommended for these coins. Who knows? Given the announced mintage, 75,000, which is hardly “rare,” these coins could be a lot cheaper four years from now after the excitement is over.

About the only thing that might make them expensive is if the powers in charge of set parameters decent that they are part of the Morgan Dollar set. That would be inappropriate in my opinion because the Morgan Dollar set ended in 1921. Adding another coin to the set 100 years later is nothing but marketing, but if they decide to do it, and collectors go along, get ready to be hosed.

Or you can thumb your nose at them, and tell you are not going to play the game.

Solutions to the Morgan/Peace dollars are way to complex. Limit each coin to ONE per hhl. No 10% pre-sales to select dealers. Write or call your elected representatives and explain the unfair policy for the "big boys". Made wealthy with tax payer money.

The worst pre-sale racket happens every day and folks take it for granted. I’m talking about airline tickets. In order to get a good price, the times and flights you want, you must often buy tickets more than 2 months in advance. Problem is your credit card gets charged immediately. By the time flight day arrives, you can’t dispute the charge no matter what happens. You get some protection from airline regs and business laws. If the flight is canceled completely, you will get a refund eventually although the airline may try to convince you to take a credit. But they can switch times, days (to an extent), equipment, layovers, seating, meal service etc., and for most types of tickets, you can’t get a complete refund or any refund at all if the changes don’t work for you. rant.gif

I’d like to see a law that prevents airlines from charging your card until you board.

Really, contact your elected representatives? They are a big part of the problem.

Well it does say "Presale listings must clearly state that they are "presale" in the title and description, and guarantee shipment within 30 days of purchase." None of the listing's qualify as this they all have delivery days of June 13-26 last 13 days of the 30 day period.

Whatever though I guess we will see them all on Judge Judy. Hahaha

    Edited
I guess as long as they guarantee shipping by june13-26 and write in the description "ships after October sometime" all is good..... I've brought it to ebays attention when they see the 50 and more listing I reported. I'll guarantee the fraudsters are all over those 600 and counting listing knowing they are getting money and 4 months later will hear about the scam if at all. Ebay's problem not mine I suppose if they decide this is cool for them and a month later hundreds want to file wire fraud claims against PayPal and the sellers.

Yall are right. Ebay don't pay me to work for them

I agree...in principle, but the reason to buy airline tickets early is to get the lowest price. Airlines offer the lower prices to fill their flights early. I doubt the airlines would be willing to offer lower rates if they don't get their money until "day of travel".

As a defense contractor (retired), I would fly all over the place for meetings. Folks I know who are still working don't fly much at all, anymore. Most issues are resolved via one of the many remote meeting utilities. Business travel is a HUGE part of airline sales. Air transportation services will have to contract some to remain profitable (imo).
