I have three 1960 D LMC's with the same MD, actually triple. They came from the same mint roll. Is it possible with mechanical doubling to get identical results? If there is any significance I will put some photos together to better show the three coins.

Maybe if it’s from the same machine. Can you post the obverses of all three. This might give some insight if they are the same dies. JMHO

Could be. They came from a mint roll I got straight from the bank in 1960. I will try to put together a better representation. It's getting late. Perhaps tomorrow.

I still have some 59, 60 and 64 mint rolls to go through. I found 10 mint rolls of Canadian cents, 1964. This is more fun than waiting 4 months for a new silver dollar to come in the mail.

When the hammer die is tilted and stuck in that position for a spell it could strike down pretty similarly. What you don't want to do is confuse that with why we collect die and not strike (your term, "mechanical") doubling. You want to remember strike doubling is but a hiccup when the coin is struck. And hiccups sound identical, sometimes, don't they? :)

Thanks, that's the kind of information that I was looking for.

Speaking of hiccups; Meow thinks Meow has not had one in decades. Wonder why they happen in the first place? Does one outgrow doing it?
