JFK has a creeping disease

FFIVN found this today in our weekly half dollar box search. I haven't seen a coin with as sever die deterioration as this, especially on JFK's face. Just thought it was cool and wanted to share.

The reverse looks like it was subjected to heat, but the obverse looks normal. So, could this be a dryer coin? I don't know.

 

You think? I thought that the reverse had the sort of orange peel effect of a worn die. it's odd that it just is around the center of the coin.

Looks like die deterioration. It also appears to show progressive indirect die transfer.

 

Another good one, that's pretty extreme. Funny thing is, they let it alone, there doesn't appear to be any rehab effort on it.

 

The flow lines look like radial flow lines though. The stuff on his face is weird, I'll give you that.

 

It is odd. Especially the hair on JFK.

 

That was the most interesting part. I'd like to know what caused that.

 

What does it weigh? Debris filled on a such a worn die wouldn’t be usual.
