I'm still learning to grade these & think the bullion shop I saw this at has an AU price on a VF coin. What do you think is a fair grade & price on this piece?
You'll get plenty of people who would call that an AU piece, but I like it better at EF-45. Looks like a nice coin.
Well it is his coin and he can list it for whatever he wants. Offer EF 45 money for it and see what happens.
It'll depend on what he's asking for it. AU50 CDN is $255 PCGS is $600 HA average $340-440 XF45 CDN is $180 PCGS is $450 HA Average $255-330 If he's asking near $600, I would pass, he doubtfully would come down to earth on it. If his price is lower, I'd offer $300, and probably not any more. At $300, he should be making 20% or more, and I think that's a reasonable price.
Better than VF; not an AU, though...like most of the other posters I would call it an XF. Offer 300 and see what he says. Go up to a max of 350.
Its a 300.00 bust half. No more. It lacks luster is why. Honesty I am leary of buying CBH at the moment. Prices are way high right now. If they continue that way great....but if they dip.... Either way i am a firm advocate of if you like the coin buy it. I have more than a few pcs that i know i over paid. I had to have them.
They're looking for $650, which seems rather high for me. There is a hint of luster in hand. I'm thinking it likely had an old dipping and retoned since then (maybe pre 1970). I was thinking $250 was a fair offer but wanted to get a few other opinions.
No dice at $250. Lowest they were willing to go was $600 & I thanked them for their time before walking away.
This is a VF35/XF40 coin depending on the mood of the grader. It has luster, which may have led the shop to believe it was AU. But they’re wrong. Buy price as a dealer is $125 max. Collector: $190ish.
Really no point offering $250 on a coin they have priced at $650. The dealer will probably tell you to take a hike. I honestly don’t offer on coins unless I’m relatively close. This is a table/shop that I always just walk away from.
It is an O-104 R-1, so common die variety. Considering the scratch between the wing and the ribbon for EPU, and across the left wing [facing] plus a possible dig obv, below star 1, near the reeding, I would say- punt.
XF-40 at best. The owner can call it anything he wants and price it accordingly. Everything I've read so far on this thread about grade and price tells me the owner's credibility is questionable. I'd laugh to myself if I were quoted $600 for this coin and not waste my time looking at his offerings any further.
