I've never experienced major problems with UPS, USPS, or Fedex, after sending and receiving an uncountable number of packages. I think all-in-all they all do an excellent job. My ability to consistently send and receive packages in a couple of days to/from pretty much anywhere in the country is absolutely a modern marvel.
They all have their issues. Sent a letter from south Florida to Tallahassee FL with fedex. Yesterday it's supposed to be delivered by 4:30 pm and sitting in North Georgia since 1:30 AM 4 hours drive further north than its supposed to be. Still not delivered.... glad I paid for 2nd day...
just checked tracking, today it's in Tallahassee @ 7:32AM, Delivery date "pending"....... jabroni's! Spent a day in Kennesaw GA, nobody knows why. LOL I didn't even know there was a Kennesaw Georgia!
Never had a problem with the post office. Can't remember how many times I've had to pick a package out of the bushes or try to dry off a package UPS dumped there or left out in the rain. I won't use them anymore. I always check before I order something to see how it will be shipped. FedEx is a little better.
I few years ago, as I had posted at the time: I had sent a box of books to Colorado [from NY] media mail to be signed. I told the person that it was on the way [I always enclose return postage]. After 3 months I gave up and assumed it was 'lost'. [spell stolen]. Sad to say for the first time I had not made a list of what was in the box. About 18 months after shipping I got an e-mail saying that the books were signed and on the way back to me. I had no clue what that was about. About 5 days later the box arrived. With my books, so 18+ months there and 5 days back.
u.s.p.s. is horrible.i live in ohio and my coin world issues are constantly 2 or 3 weeks late.the sad thing is coin world is also here in ohio.
They all have issues but I personally prefer USPS. They seem to have the most consistency in my opinion.
A few years ago, I bought an expensive projector. I got notice that UPS would deliver it on a specific day. Since I had to sign for it, I stayed home all day. When it was 4PM, I went out my back door and found a note that they couldn't deliver it because no one was home. I was sitting in a chair within 10 feet of the door, and, no, I did not fall asleep. I contacted UPS and they told me UPS was still in the area and she told me the next two stops were, which were within 2 miles of my home. I went to the first stop and he had just left. I went to the next stop and caught him as he was just about to get in the truck. He apologized and told me he had rung the door bell. There is a note on all three of my doors that the door bell does not work. Anyway, he asked for my ID and then had me sign for it and I got my package. Although the driver can't read, I give extra credit to the UPS delivery office.
Learned a vital lesson from years ago. Purchased beautiful blown glass from colonial Williamsburg, and decided to have it shipped. First thing clerk said was that they learned to pack the item well, and never to indicate "fragile" on the package/box. Too many "deliberate" destruction of boxes no matter who they shipped with. After the "no fragile indicator" policy, never had a broken piece up to that point (5 years and running). Go figure!
I've never had a problem with USPS as packages always arrive eventually but several months ago I won some lots from a new Polish Auction House on Biddr. They shipped via UPS and I received a pre-delivery proforma invoice from UPS for "government charges" and import duty that was greater than the cost of the lots. I have lived longer than I will live and after several hours trying to speak to a human gave up as I don't want to waste my time. The import duty for 2000 year old coins into the UK should be 5% but UPS charged 140% ! I am now in the situation that I am unable to speak to anyone, emails remain unanswered and to rub salt into the wounds , UPS are now charging late payment fees! I stopped using UPS years ago because their import charges are somewhat similar to the "we've found a scratch" on your rental car that used to be prevalent in the 1980's. Some of the German and Belgium Auction Houses use Fedex, no drama and my coins turn up 3 days later. The Auction House are chasing UPS and I suggested sending the package back to them and posting it by standard mail but UPS intend to charge them nearly the same price as the coins, not my problem but I will probably never bid with them again following the comment about charges back to them from UPS. Problems happen in life but it is how you address them that makes the difference between good service and bad service and I would never tarnish my reputation because of a poor choice of carrier.
Was never said that the USPS always gets it right, was perfect or didn't make mistakes, etc...just that if needed for anything important, whatever, would use/bet on USPS before the others...and so would I. Have had all sorts of issues with "brown"...damaged, delivered to wrong names/addresses, lost, you name it. Not too different with F-X...but very few similar issues EVER with USPS. My experience.
I seem to recall that you're not supposed to send coins via UPS. Is that not right? Also, I've never had a problem with UPS shipping, but I found USPS very iffy during the depths of the pandemic.
My wife and I have used all 3 services a lot over the years. We’ve never had a package shipped to us via UPS or Fedex not arrive eventually. A few have arrived damaged. Can’t say the same of USPS. Latest was a package coming from Estonia. USPS claimed for weeks that it was being held by U.S. Customs in Chicago. Somehow my wife got the guy in charge of incoming mail at U.S. Customs in Chicago on the phone … amazing that she was able to that. He looked through some printouts, found it listed, and said it was in and out of customs in a few days. It was cleared and turned over to USPS. That was months ago, and we’re still waiting. USPS claims U.S. Customs still has it. For shipping packages, we use Fedex exclusively after having too many USPS packages arriving later than predicted. UPS is too inconvenient to use in our location. We can do all the payment and label-making online. A Fedex truck is down our country road almost every business day, and we hand outgoing packages to the driver. Occasionally we drop packages at the Fedex Office location in town … folks there are fast, friendly and helpful. Everything is tracked. We have private insurance for valuables. Cal
