A bitter moment and a personal anecdote - personal anecdotes do not outweigh data. I am excited about a UPS delivery that was loaded on the truck at 6:30 am and went out for delivery at 9:08 am (nice they update both of those facts). So the UPS big brown truck just backed into my driveway about 15 minutes ago, I'm in the upstairs front room, so I have a view of the drivers seat, he's shuffling padded envelopes (what a coincidence, that sounds like my package probably) and then after about 5 minutes he appears to throw them to his passenger seat and drives away. I'm not badmouthing this guy - it's 5:21 pm local time and he's had a hell of a day I'll bet, so I'll probably get my package tomorrow, but in my experience over the last 4 decades or so that I've been sending packages, my money is always on the USPS to get it there faster and safer. They pay their people better and seem to take some pride in their work. I feel genuinely bad for the UPS, FedEx and Amazon drivers - they have no unions, lower wages and no benefits to my knowledge. I appreciate them all, but if I have to send something, my first choice is the USPS.
@MIGuy The USPS doesn't always get it right. On 5/13, one of our members dropped a package off at his PO, and I was supposed to receive it on 5/17. 5/17 came and went, and tracking showed that it had not even left his state. 5/24 passed and "movement" in his state went from "Point A" to "Point B", back to "Point A" and back to "Point B" AGAIN! Finally, I received the package, today, 5/27. (NOTE: I've left the route rather vague to protect the innocent.)
Very true Cpm, Well since Covid I've observed that certain processing centers literally shut down - in Oak Park, Michigan I know they shut down for two weeks because of a COVID outbreak and it was crazy, the USPS has been screwed in terms of delivery times in my experience this last year. I consider this an aberration, and I'm very fortunate my last few months haven't been seeing delays as I was last year.
IMO, members it really depends on the quality of workers in each area. Some places have better USPS employees than UPS & In others, the UPS delivery system outshines the local postal service. That's been my experience in Houston's East End, J.T.
USPS has had very poor service for a long time in my area. I had a Ebay purchase ship on 2/20. Tracking showed in transit but arriving late. I received the item on 5/7 two months after I received a refund. This is only the latest of my bad USPS service.
Actually UPS pays more than USPS, as they are represented by the Teamsters union. Amazon workers are paid less than USPS delivery folks.
On the other hand, I just received a package (Chicago to Southwest Florida) via regular mail in just three days.
I've had bad experiences with all of them, especially USPS although I use them by far the most so I would expect more issues.
Never used UPS. USPS has served me well, although my one major complaint is that there are no post offices close to me, even though I live in a densely populated area. It's why I don't sell online very much.
UPS is unionized.........sorry I wasn't you driver. I took care of my people 25 years ago when I was on 'the trucks'. These fellows today are so overwhelmed with volume they can't keep up.
Of all the delivery services, UPS is absolutely the worst. If a seller will only offer UPS, I will literally refuse to buy the item and seek out someone else rather than dealing with the BS of UPS. For all the flack that the Postal Service gets, they are worlds better than those sh*t stained brown shorts wearing garbage trucks of the UPS.
A footnote on Fedex: I sent a box via Fedex to my stepson in Ca. If not for the solid packing job I did internally, all would have been lost.
Agreed 100% I am thankful that I took the time to REALLY pack these items, some Fragile (As per the label I attached) and some quite small but personal to my step-son. The split down the side was large enough for most of the items to disappear. I tend to over pack and it paid off handsomely on this box
Fed-X, PATHETIC, ironic, I waited for a signature required delivery just today, got the the notifications today that I have to be here for the package, NEVER CAME, you think I'm ticked ? Ridiculous.
