Any thoughts on this auction site as compared to eBay?

I have purchased from them a few times. Not much of an auction guy. I bought several gold coins from them straight out. Was quite pleased with both purchases.

It’s a place that people should look at more. Go for whatever you want there no reservations about anything.

I bid on the site often, you will get reasonable deals but like any other site if two people want the same thing it could go beyond market price, I have lost 90% of bids as I set a final bid number in my note's and rarely cross that to avoid auction fever and over paying. Customer support is great if you have issues or questions they will get back to you Asap. to me it's better then heritage or stacks were even common dated average coins seem to get jacked up on the final bid. It's better then eBay because the coins and slabs are inspected and GC is run by coin experts. just my opinion on it.

I buy much more from GC than from Ebay. As for selling, almost everything I sell is on GC. Ebay just isn't worth the hassle to me.

Very solid point. You don’t know what you are dealing with typically on EBay. You can feel confident in a GC purchase.

I've bought a lot from them, as well as Heritage (not so much on eBay). They (GC) ship faster then Heritage. You have to calculate the buyer's fee on GC, whereas HA shows you what the next bid with fee will be. Customer service has to be about the best in the business, and I've never had any issues with anything with GC. HA is better/easier for researching prices though.

I've bought more then a few coins through GC.. can be a little pricier then ebay at times, but you also tend to see better coins and less junk :D No issues on any purchases i've made there either..

GC is thoroughly professional. I have won quite a few auctions. Very prompt invoicing and shipping. I win on Sunday night, have the invoice emailed that night, pay it then and i have the coin in hand on Thursday or Friday. Coins have never disappointed although sometimes I can fault their photography.

They ship USPS signature required so if you miss the postman it's down to the PO you go.

I bid pretty much every week or two, no problems and the shipping is usually pretty fast, no way to retract a bid that i know of so make sure you are bidding on the right item and the decimal is in the right place lol never sold anything yet but will/would one day in the future!

I have bought and sold through GC. My interactions with them have always been professional, and their customer service has been great.

As a seller... expect prices slightly above wholesale. They aren't going to get retail prices, and they aren't going to get stellar auction results. They sell a lot of stuff, but its usually somewhat common. You don't get whales at GC.

As a buyer... there are hidden gems, and you can get good deals if you spend the time.

In my mind, GC kind of filled the space that Teletrade left when they closed, but GC does it better. It's mostly widgets, but you can get really nice widgets for good prices sometimes.

    I'm not sure about entertaining.....

    - risky
    - gambling
    - varied
    - diverse
    - eclectic
    - pedantic
    - greater highs and lower lows
    - potential for scams
    - potential for unidentified varieties

Ebay is its own unique wild-west. Great Collections is like the St. Louis Arch, just on the border of the West.

I have made a total of 4 purchases from GC in the past year. Two were 4 figure coins. A few observations:
    1. No sales tax and only 10 percent buyer’s fee if paying by echeck. Also faster and cheaper shipping than Heritage.
    2. Bidding software is less sophisticated than eBay or HA. I’m not sure if sniping software can be used (someone please correct me if I’m wrong) and it’s not practical to bid on multiple auctions ending close together if you can only afford to win one.
    3. I feel like I’ve gotten some better deals, perhaps due to lower visibility.
    4. Photos are brighter than HA. Not saying that’s good or bad, just an observation.
    5. No issues at all with customer service.
    6. There seems to be a lot of low value coins along with high value coins in the same auction, but not always as much in between. For example, a VG details bust quarter is not what I would be looking for, but neither is one graded MS65.

I would use them exclusively due to their lower fees, but sometimes HA and EBay just have more of what I’m looking for. Maybe I just need to be more patient. They are an excellent outfit and would probably be my first choice for consignment.
