Keeping records of how much you got and how much you spent doesn't necessarily equate to "buried in paperwork". You've always been responsible for reporting, and paying taxes on, profit you make. eBay is tracking and reporting the side they can see -- how much you get for stuff you sell there. There's no way they can know how much you paid for it. Yes, it's on you to track that.
Exactly, which is very frustrating! But I do like the fact that eBay is taking their cut from sales first instead of lumping an entire months selling fees in one invoice to be paid.
I've read most of the entries and I don't know that I understand what the problem is. I don't make a lot of purchases from ebay, mostly coins. I do it through PayPal and have never had a problem. It looks like it's more of a problem for sellers than for us little 'ol buyers.
Well, they finally dragged me into the new process. I'll still pay with PayPal but now I'll have to keep an eye on my checking account for payments received.
I went to bid on a gold coin yesterday and ebay wouldn't let me bid until I made the switch. I sell very little and wont sell when they change the threshold to the $600 tax rate.
My biggest issue with the recent changes is their new way of managing disputes. If a seller decides to challenge a buyer dispute instead of just accepting it, and ebay's final decision is in the buyer's favor, the seller has to pay a (I think $25) mediation fee. edit to add: ...and that is per item. So, if a buyer purchased 10 items and filed a INAD on the whole order, the seller could possibly get their bank account dinged for $250 after losing a dispute.

He got hit with this on a multiple item order right after it was introduced with managed payments. Ended up with more penalty fees for losing the dispute than the original sale amount.
This dispute fee was also a Paypal problem. Twice I had to pay a $20 fee when someone disputed a $2 sale. I was not pleased.
It depends on what you’re looking for. If it was that easy everybody probably would just use a dealer. If you just want any 3 cent silver in any grade I’m sure the dealer can get one. If you want a type 2 in MS-64 in a pcgs slab, maybe there’s one on eBay? How long will the dealer take to find one and what will the extra markup be for the effort? It’s the difference between finding something you like immediately and buying it or waiting months or years and maybe never finding one you like.
I can’t imagine investing the time and effort in to $2 sales to begin with let alone getting charged $20 fees over them. eBay isn’t what it used to be. They act like they did everybody a favor by simplifying things but they used the opportunity to charge just a little bit more than the fees cost before.
Any stock short sellers out there? Maybe time to short sell Ebay stock? This latest change to Ebay sales policy/rules really sucks. I can see Ebay losing a lot of sellers.
Well, found the second thing I don't like about Managed Payments. You have to wait to get your money. Normally when someone buys from me, as soon as payment is confirmed I wrap the item up and get it in the mail, often the same day. Now I have to wait a couple days to get confirmed payment. So I now have a coin sitting out waiting. It was bought early Saturday; with PayPal it would have been in the mail the same day. But no proof of payment yet. BTW, the first thing I don't like is shipping small, inexpensive items. I don't ship items like that with tracking; helps keep the cost of S&H down. Someone bought some stamps from me. As usual I popped them into and envelope and dropped them into the mail. Now eBay is bugging me to mail them. I'm beginning to think my tenure at eBay may be drawing to a close. I started in 1999.
Yeah. I started in 1998, and was a Power Seller for several years. I stopped for a while, and thought I'd start back, only to see that they'd disabled leaving negative feedback for buyers. I've done very little selling since. I still haven't set up my account for the new payment system, and while I'm not adamantly opposed to signing up, I'm also not terribly motivated.
They'll still end up with more money overall getting the payment fees now. Most sellers it doesn't really matter as they have hugeeee margins. They'll lose a lot of small sellers especially for coins but they've been wanting to get rid of them for a while and be more like amazon without having to do any of the work
Maybe they will send you a special offer to join if you hold out. It's worth waiting if you aren't planning to sell anything soon. I debated doing that but ended up switching over since I did have a few active listings.
You may be right, but I have to disagree with you on one very important thing: Go Air Force, Beat Navy and Army.
