1932 D Quarter... is it fake?

Hi!

I have a 1932 D quarter and am wondering what others think. Is it a fake? I recently purchased a microscope with a digital camera and have been messing around with it. I always assumed it was a fake, but am beginning to wonder.

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. That looks to be the proper mintmark shape and it appears to be in a slight depression, which would be what you'd look for on the coin.

I'd like to see more pics. I would lean toward real at first blush.

How about a macro picture to complement the macro?

 

I have to ask.... WHY do you think it is fake? Maybe I should go to bed as I think I am getting stupid again. Good night.

Here are two more pics. One is of the coin upside down and the other is from a slightly different angle than the first pic. If nothing else I'm having great fun playing with the microscope.

 

well, I'd like to see the whole coin. I think it's been cleaned, but it looks like it's at least VF, so let's see the whole coin!

I felt it was a fake because it was my father's and he had labeled it as such. After he died my mother gave it to me because she knows home much I enjoy quirky coins along with my regular collection. Now that I have the microscope i decided to take a second look at it.

Purchased an AmScope ST-30-2L with DM35 camera

 

Certainly looks fake to me, especially in this reverse pic!! Sure, if I had it I would keep it!! Couldn't sell it so I would keep it. :smile

 

that's what I thought when I looked at it too, however the strike doubling evident on pics 2 and 3 make me think it is ok.

Bottom line, without seeing it in hand I am unwilling to condemn or authenticate it.

 

and if you forced an answer out of me one way or another, I would say I am unwilling to pay genuine money for the coin based on only these images.

 

Without it in hand I can not be sure - but I'm opting towards real.

I would very much like a second camera with a lower resolution too. But that will come later.
