Mint Sealed Silver Eagles-Would you open them?

Monster boxes are great, but at todays prices out of my league lol There would be no way to spin that one to my wife

CT should form a group so we can all pitch in and get monster boxes to divvy up. Has this ever occurred here on CT? Monster boxes are definitely unsearched.

Agreed, but I still enjoy stacking them in 4x5 rows/columns to appreciate their beauty! If I had these I probably wouldn't open them, until maybe after a couple of refreshments! I honestly don't understand the grading of eagles, they're all MS anyway!

 

BU packaged. Me? I am opening. It is a 3rd Party packaging system, not by the U.S. Mint. I will check all for condition, with the goal of finding an outstanding example to encapsulate (not TPG/4PG encapsulation)for my own collection.

The Mint does have a Contract basis packaging agreement available for larger bullion dealers, and the dealer pays for the labels slapped on by the Mint Employee. I have also bought the U.S. Mint sealed tube and the Dealer applied his own label. Same end result.

I am after the best example I can find, not bullion. As volatile as bullion is, I am not buying as an investment or resale for a little profit.

Yes, I thought these were legit as well, but I've only just bought regular ASE tubes, and they're always pristine. Even bought some graded MS-69 & 70s for close to spot!

 

I had an unopened tube that I cracked out last night. The coins got stuck in the tube and after I tried to get them out they ended up all over the floor! Fortunately, it was carpet!

 

Yes they all come in pristine BU condition regardless of being sealed or not. The sealed tubes however are allegedly unsearched by the bullion dealers who distribute them for the Mint.
Also sealed sets typically sell for higher prices than an unsealed tube. roll etc. So the extra pemium paid to acquire them is always recovered when and if you sell them.

 

I would open one or two maybe. But I'd keep at least one sealed.

 

I would keep them sealed. You buy other ones to play with, if you want a MS70 example you can buy it slabbed. But I would just buy a tube from my dealer who buys monster boxes. I trust him not to have opened it.

 

Doesn’t make sense to me to pay a premium for a sealed roll, and then open it. Kind of defeats the purpose of buying it in the first place. If you want to have a roll to open, don’t pay a premium for the sealed roll.

 

Of course in this case it is one of those distributors who sealed it that is making the claim that they are unsearched.
